Hi Andy, I think you were parked right next to me in Coniston (yesterday 29 January 2025 ) I was up the Old Man Of Coniston after visiting Cathedral cave at little Langdale... Stunning Location. .. At Coniston its very special place in Lake District such interesting caves and the views form the old man are absolute stunning ... I climbed The old Man, Daw crag, Swirl How, Great Carrs... I love the views from Great Carrs and its the location of the downed war Bomber aircraft the landing gear is still on the mountain.... I highly recommend visiting Cathedral cave in Little Langdale it's amazing. Love your videos Andy mate... I hope I meet you one day for a pint... Kind Regards.... 👍👍👍

Thanks for a great video, really enjoyed it. You're dead right about the importance of getting on a winter skills course and how to carry an ice axe, so many people don't seem to know. Phil

Nice one Andy. Glad it wasn’t just me struggling with batteries that night 🤦🏻♂️. I reckon the winds where we were were about 10mph less despite not being too far away on Whiteside. We went up your descent route and it was exhausting as you say🥵. A stunning time to be out tho. ATB bud 👍

Some great views there Andy. Shame about the weather forecast for the morning but as you say some mornings are better than others and it’ll make the next time with the perfect sunrise and low wind even sweeter. Great advice regarding the ice axe by the way. All the best! Gav

“Owd Geffer” you say 😂 great video mate, great vistas ❤ Talking of batteries & GoPro, I’ve recently bought the DJI action 5; used it in a recent camp/video which was -6. (Dipping to -9 in neet) & I had literally zero problems mate. The battery life is also 2.5 times that of the GoPro enduro batts 👍 winner winner Take a look at em pal Take care ATB Dave

Had a few say same re the dji i may have to look into it & with the option of the wireless mic too i suppose it'd be a no brainer..

The X-dome was certainly taking a bit of a battering from the wind there Andy. Must have been freezing inside that mesh inner! Good to know the tent can take it though 😊. Great emphasis on not only having the right safety gear but also knowing how to use it properly. I have had several experiences of ‘inexperienced users’ tripping over their own crampons (or in one case catching the back of mine!) and having no idea how to use their ice axes properly. Lost a few friends too when things went wrong on the Scottish mountains in Winter. Two of them fell through a cornice when tracking round a ridge in a whiteout and another slipped on pretty much the last step onto the summit ridge and fell to his death 😢. Take great care out there everyone!

Great video Andy 👍. Striding Edge in the snow 👌 very nice! Glad you discussed the safety aspect. I camped on the Thursday evening of that week and experienced some winds that were quite a bit higher than the 5 to 10 mph winds that were forecast. Although at least I was able to get a fantastic still morning. Really enjoyed this video. All the best.

Good stuff, Andy. I backed off from Helvellyn summit on the 10th because the ground just laughed at my pegs - I might as well have tried knocking them into granite. Managed better in Keppel Cove. Still a grand trip.

great video, like the safety messages, I've never attempted Striding in Winter. Did Bowfell from ODG one Winter, had all the gear, with friends, but the beautiful snowline from the valley turned into thigh deep snow when we got there. Literally out of my depth. I stay in the lower valleys now when the weather is poor. 🤣

Arguably your best ever video Andy. 🏆🏆🏆Those Easton will bend if they’re driven into hard ground. IMO you’re better off with a 7.5 inch MSR groundhog which has a y section like a girder so resits bending well. You’ll get more peg in than a 9 inch Easton. Or there’s the 9 inch cyclone that’s more of a corkscrew shape. The groundhogs I’ve used for years. Atb

Another brilliant video Andy. Been a few years since I was across Striding Edge but never done it in winter. Maybe take some thin titanium pegs in your bag for rocky spots, I carry half a dozen Alpkit Tri Rods and they work a treat if needed and weigh nowt.

may be worth designing a holder for the go-pro that can hold the go-pro but also hold a hothands in a compartment to keep the device warm enough whilst filming. edit: being in scotland, i just take a nalgene soft bottle to pee. also works as a hot "pee" bottle lol i'll also be honest - i secretly like it when the weather turns crap as i imagine the youtube viewing numbers show that loads of other people do do haha
