I would start by gathering a list of shippers in you area and making calls to them pitching your services. I would even try walking into the shippers in your area and soliciting your services. For most carriers doing this and goal amount of shippers to contact each week will lead to securing a direct shipper.

Yes but here the downside of that. You will still need to market and build your company. You are going to loose some customers and I believe it you get too busy on the day to day activities you may not be as focused on growth. It will be easier and more profitable in the long run to hire a dispatcher.
