At 9:42 interesting consist, i don’t often see NR’s and LDP’s paired with an 81! Also great video and I know the Blue Mountains quite well, becautiful line

It was fairly common for 81’s to be paired with NR’s/LDP’s when Pacific National operated the Blue Scope Steel contract out of Port Kembla. As far as I am aware some of the 81 class fleet were even on an Intermodal roster meaning they would frequent various steel trains operating in and out of PK. Thanks for the comment!

What does "PS" mean in the train's run number? Parkes to Sydney? Crossing loop... is that the same thing that we call a "passing siding?"
@south_coast_freight_ Жыл бұрын
PS indicates Perth - Sydney and yes

Very good video. Is that line broad (1.6m) or standard (1.4m) gauge ?

Easily one of the best rail channels. Why do the Perth to Sydney intermodals travel via the main south? Too much weight over the Blue Mountains?
@south_coast_freight_ Жыл бұрын
The Main South has much higher track speeds, easier grades and is double line the entire length from Cootamundra West where Perth-Syd trains link up all the way to Macarthur then there is the SSFL which is a high speed freight link avoiding the intercity passenger network to Sydney. From Parkes the track is single line with loops to Orange then predominantly single line again from Orange to Bathurst and again from Tarana to Wallerawang. After that is a slow steep descent from Mount Victoria down to Emu Plains then travelling through the metropolitan area with added passenger trains to Syd making for a very slow trip when factoring in crosses with various other freight and much lower speeds throughout the entirety of the journey to Sydney.

@@south_coast_freight_ Makes sense, thanks for the explanation.
