As often as you trade three packs of ramen noodles for two cigarettes in the Federal pen after getting caught for your deleted truck ;-) Seriously though, you won't go to prison if you get caught, but you will need to undelete your truck and likely pay a reduced fine of usually around $3,500. FYI... not so much for you because you seem pretty proud of your deleted truck, but we do undeletes for anybody who may have lost their after treatment system after hitting a pothole.

Hello! What year is your friend's truck? If it is 2014, 2015, 2016... he probably needs a new onebox. We sell them with 3 year warranty. If he has a newer (or older) truck, he may just need cleaning.

To clean/refurbish an entire one box... HIGHLY unlikely.

We've had customers bring us Detroit filters after getting them cleaned by another shop for the same price and finding out they didn't work after reinstalling them. We cleaned them a second time and easily got over 100 grams of soot out of each filter that had supposedly already been cleaned and got the flow rate to improve by 80% and saved the customer from having to buy two brand new filters at about $1,000 each. Obviously, go wherever you choose but understand that there are differences in how the job is done. Also... keep in mind that if you get filters cleaned from a onebox, you will also need to get new clamps and gaskets which are usually around $400 for the complete set. Prices we are talking about can appear different when you first hear them because what I'm talking about is for cleaning of the entire onebox plus everything needed for the job and that includes all of the parts you require (clamps, gaskets, DEF doser gasket, heat shield bolts and clips, disassembly and reassembly of the onebox, etc.)

He's not talking about cleaning just the DPF filters, I think he's referring to cleaning the entire one box (DPF filters, SCR filters, etc)

The parts alone to do this job (clamps, gaskets, replacement DEF doser gasket, heat shield clips and replacement bolts, ect.) cost about $400 by themselves and yes, when I am talking about about what we charge to clean a Detroit DD13 or DD15 one-box, we are talking about $1500 - $1700 (ish) but hat is for cleaning everything (both DOC, both DPF, decomposition chamber, both SCR, etc.) plus tearing the one-box down and putting it back together and all of the parts needed for the job. I understand how this can be confusing and maybe I should use more typical "bait-and-switch" type pricing but I am more comfortable with you or any of our customers knowing what they are really going to spend vs. surprising you after the fact. Yes, like anything in this world, I'm sure you can get it done cheaper but I think it'd be challenging to get it done better.
