Freightliner Cascadia owners, what are you doing to keep your CPC4 safe?

Freightliner Cascadia owners, please be aware. They are stealing your CPC4 because they are on national back order. My local Freightliner estimates 12-18 months, not sure if that is accurate although my sales rep says 2-3 months.
Not sure who to believe when it comes to the actual ETA for the CPC4.
Consider removing it if you plan on leaving your truck along, especially over a long period of time.
Without your CPC4, your truck is useless. The CPC4 is the brain of the truck and communicates with all the other modules.

A company in Kernersville NC repairs these from scratch and also sells a cable to locate your CPC on your floor or seat for easy removal when you leave your truck. The company is ERD. Look it up. They have a great turn around and guarantee on the repair.

The thieves know they are there. My customer had his stolen while he was at a Home Depot. In the store less than 1 hour. Came back and CPC was stolen. Total price was over easily over $5,000. $2,000 for the CPC $1,200-1500 for the core Plus programming (varies at dealership) Plus the harness Plus labor (to assemble harness) and then the down time. Just have to be safe out there. Takes thieves less than 5 minutes to steal the CPC.

Sad state the parts supply chain is in with back orders that can exceed on year on some parts. It doesn’t help that dealers have altered inventory levels so when national part searches are done a dealer may have parts in stock that won’t show up in inventory. I don’t see any improvements in the near future!

A news story just broke. July 21, 2021. Approximately 150 Freightliner trucks were broken into and have had their CPC4 module stolen in California. Surprise surprise, a crapload of these modules are showing up for on eBay and other online forums. They are going for 5k to 20k.

I took zip tie out put cable tie in, fabricating a block wall in case they get past front panel that has keyed tamper proof locking bolts and air supply lock so truck won’t move unless it’s dragged onto a flatbed what a beautiful world we live in

Yes. You can remove and install the CPC and it will not have to be programmed.

this is a long shot but what are you guys doing if the connectors have been cut? are you installing connectors or the whole dash harness?

Good question, Freightliner sells a kit but the irony is they don’t include the instructions which completely defeats the purpose. I use a sister truck or similar and follow the numbers and pins.

It does not, just be careful with the plugs when you pull them. But as far as the memory of the CPC goes. Nothing happens to it.

I live in Newark, NJ and CPC4 vandalism is a serious problem in NJ, NY area right now. Dear fellow truckers do yourself a favor remove it from your truck and take it with you just like the man says it here or else you’ll be spending more than $6k to replace it on your truck. Even if you going for a couple hours.

If the CPC is used then it is already programmed to the truck it came from. It should be plug and play but May require programming to match your VIN. If the CPC is new, then it definitely needs to be programmed or flashed to your VIN.

TRUCK ECM out of Tampa, FL will repair your CPC 2 day turn around. I use them all the time. Who can wait on the national b/o to unwind.

Truck ECM will also put an Apple Tag inside of your CPC. So if it gets stolen you can track it. We have had 2 stolen so far

Yes you can, I cut the power using the cut off switch then I remove the CPC4. You won’t have any issues. It is a plug and play.

@@CurbHopper111 I have the wifi system from falconeye, you can view the cameras anywhere so long as you have a hotspot inside the truck. It’s always recording to a hard drive. 1080p cameras. Really good system. Pricey but good

Will the cpc alwsy be located there? I’m asking because my truck got broken in and they stripped the dash, the fuse box and the bottom part. I don’t think they found it because I was able to turn on the truck and I been driving it for the last two days. Mayb the previous owner hid it somewhere else. I’ve just had my truck for only 6 months now.

Or did freightliner move it after a certain year of production I just opened up my panel and my cpc/cpc4 isn't located in the traditional spot in the panel to the right... Not sure if the owner had it moved or if it was freightliner figuring their crap out, I peeked around the panel area and didn't see anything obvious that looked like it. Just a ton of words, no harnesses though or the black box

@@adamhearts9195 now I understand, the CPC is located behind the panel or dash just to the right on almost all Cascadia trucks. They did however, change the location on 2017/2018 trucks to a completely different location. So if you don’t see it that is a good thing. You can always call your local Freightliner to verify where it is located.

Once the CPC is removed, then you reinstall it. You don’t have to program it. It plug and play.

Certainly a Freightliner problem, not sure about California but that could be true. Since California does have clean air requirements. The CPC4 can be found in the 2014-2016/2017 Cascadia trucks.

Idk if u ever been to jail but in jail when ever u see a screw like holding up a phone or screws holding window fixtures u will see alll the screws in jail use special key to to unscrew so inmates won’t try to pry it out

All trucks have them, you can remove the dash panel or cover and you should be able to seem it. Cascadia are the main target because so many thieves know about them and the location.

I just saw the video come up from Asian Mai, I have to check it out. It’s a shame. I know the local Freightliner (Velocity) wants owners to report it stolen so they can input it as stolen so if a person comes in with the stolen CPC to be reprogrammed to their VIN. It will be denied. It’s a small step, but at least it’s in the right direction.

I wonder how hard it would be to replicate the cpc4 module & have it made in china or somewhere else. I suppose it would have to do with how technical it is. But if something similar for another vehicle or even something with a basic computer motherboard from say a car or nintendo switch or cell phone could be programmed with the cpc4 basics couldn't this be feasible? Wouldn't have to look the same just have same functionality & sell for like $1k-$2k each. Would/could FTL sue? Especially since thier manufacturing capacity is driving people out of business? Seems like they're the ones who should be sued. They may just choose to look the other way. Hell FTL dealers may just go for this option.

Very easy. Open the door, remove the screws to the dash and it’s right there. 2018 Freightliner moved the location.
