Freightliner School Bus: Inoperative Speedometer/ Allison Transmission not shifting Gears

Join me in this project and I'll share with you what I did to diagnose and fix the speedometer that was inoperative on this School Bus... Transmission was stuck in second gear!!

This is absolutely amazing! I’ve got a freightliner MBC FE passenger bus with a Cummins and Allison combo and I’m constantly chasing codes, sensors etc. lately I’ve been getting Trans Comm Failure, range selector and speed sensor codes. The diagnostics are draining me but this def helps to see how thorough you’ve got to be to really fix these things properly and the little short cuts, like testing the solenoids from the connector rather than underneath that can help keep some hair on my head. Thank you so much for the comprehensive tut!! Very grateful!!

Where did you get the schematics for the Allison transmission with the ohm readings for the solenoids in the transmission. Was it part of the Diesel Laptops diagnostic laptop you're using or did you get it from Allison. Thanks for posting.

Hello I’m in Virginia I’m having problems with my 2006 F650 5.9 Cummins with Allison trans. We replaced trans and now while driving down the road the check trans will come and go and when the light turns on the MPH gauge fluctuates down and back up. Replaced the output speed sensor with no luck and do not have a scanner please advise. I see you said you are located in Maryland can I bring the truck to you?

Not all solenoids should be 4.5 - 7 ohms. Only Sol. A and B. CDE should be 22-24.5ohms F 10.5-11.5 Ohms

Anyone interested to know. The spec for each solenoid resistance/ohms for 2001-2003 Solenoid A 5.5-6.5 ohms Solenoid B 5.5-6.5 ohms Solenoid C 22-24.5 ohms Solenoid D 22-24.5 ohms Solenoid E 22-24.5 ohms Solenoid F TCC 10.5-11.5 ohms
