And when you think about it. Frieza never actually knew Trunk's name or relation to Vegeta, he was just this sword wielding stranger that showed up out of nowhere cut down his men, turned Super Saiyen and easily killed him and his father. Remember Frieza and his Dad died on Earth. Gero got their DNA from his spybots when they arrived. Note, said spybots were on automatic by the main computer so Gero himself never knew about anything that happened there which is why he was so surprised by Super Saiyans and Namek.
