French Colonialism in Algeria: A Brief Historical Overview

As an Algerian, I find your overview way too superficial. First, not all of Algeria was under control of the regency of Algeirs (which only controlled some cities especially on the shore), Ath Abbas and Koukou Kingdom were independent of their control. Second, the french didn't attack Algiers because they wanted to colonize Algeria, they were only interested in looting Algiers, a fortified city that no other power could control for more than 4 centuries. They attempted many raids on Algeria like en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djidjelli_expedition but failed miserably. After looting Algiers and taking Algeirs treasure, later they thought about colonization. And finally, FYI, Tunisia and Morocco got their independence in 1956 only because Algerians declared war to the french in late 1954, the french had to move their troops from All over the world to make sure that Algeria stays french at all costs.
