Epic- great episode🤙🏼 I’m half French, and many generations of us in both the US and French military 🇺🇸🇫🇷

Amazing interview. The funniest part was seeing our American friend realize how tough French parents can be. Sometimes it feels like they're the Asian parents of Europe. I'm French as well, and my experience with my parents was the same.

@Combat Story Being a British veteran JTAC I heard many many of similar stories live over the net. Always had the utmost respect for our soldiers in the sky & what they did for us. I can say without any doubt that if I had this guy giving us Socom cover I would’ve felt extremely safe. Thanks for the stories they keep getting better and better.

From a longtime french fan living in the US. MERCI BEAUCOUP RYAN!!!! Btw, now you have to update the logo of Combat Story on Google/spotify/etc to include "French air force" in the list ;-). God Bless!

This was such an excellent interview. It would be great to have other members of our allied forces or even like a Pakistani pilot or someone from Jordans Special Forces

I haven't left a comment in a few episodes, but had to on this one! Jack's descriptions of the three day squadron initiation and especially the real world mission he flew on 9/11 were intense and captivating. The hilarity of him having to insult his peers in the other Mirage flight squadrons all the way across France, just to make it back to his base and the hijinks start all over was something out of a movie! 😂

Ever heard the story of the 2 Brothers? 2 brothers had an abusive alcoholic father. One grows up to be successful and the other an alcoholic bum. They crossed paths one day and the bum brother asks the successful one, "how'd you get to be like this?" He replied "I saw what dad did." The successful brother asks the alcoholic "how did you get like this" and the brother that didn't turn out well goes "I saw what dad did."

It explains why ATÉ was very agressive in his Mirage when dogfighting against Growling Sidewinder in DCS.

I love this podcast and have been listening on spotify at night for about a year and am thinking of becoming a fighter pilot. This episode was amazing and one of my favourites.❤🎉

One More of the best I've ever heard. I can't wait until next week. I can't imagine 3 years in Korea, the year I spent attached to a RoKAF unit was rough on my liver. I was at the NCO Club at Kunsan AB when the planes hit the towers. Thanks for sharing our story Jack. I look forward to reading your book.

Very interesting as usual! Awesome interview, gonna go watch the second part after i finish this one. I couldnt help but notice Jack's watch the entire time haha. Did watches play a big role for you? Watches of espionage would be a cool guest maybe :)

Too much detail on the technicals of the crash. I think my boy is making up stuff and a crash is part of his cover story :)

Bizutage was HUGE in France, in the old days. And not only in the Military but everywhere: Boarding School, Compulsory Military Service, The University... almost everywhere. Most older folks have colorful stories of bizutage (hazing...). It really was a cultural thing and people even prepared for it in advance. Some of it was brutal, occasionally, but then you always had the chance to get back at the culprits then, so usually it was not over-crazy, but more geared towards creating sort of an esprit de corp, or brotherhood. It's all gone now with the woke, gentler, softer generations.
