Well done to you gid! Its VERY frustrating that people get away with doing crap work and still get paid for it!!! I suppose when we get over their mess what they made it makes us look good!

As Jamaco1 stated previously a lintel should have a bearing of 150mm, also when cutting out the old brickwork I try & find a plumb cut that leaves no small cuts as these tend to come loose. If it's an exact dimension I would tooth the brickwork back to lose the small cuts. Can't believe these guys are getting away with it. Tbh I've done a fair few extensions etc up that neck of the woods & some of the work round the North part of the city is scandalous. Got to be honest your work is as good as it gets & I've been doing this 46 years & I've got the back to prove it ;-)

I hope that builder was cheap! Nice bit of brick laying that Gid. Brick laying is a bit like plastering, it looks easy until you're doing it yourself and then you realise what a skill it is. Hats off to you mate, I wouldn't of even attempted it 👍

Another great video Gid. Sometimes get asked over on the Carpenters talk group on Facebook anyone worth watching for tips and tricks etc .... mentioned you one day and someone replied you were a member!!! Didnt have a clue that you would be on there 😂

Your patience is exemplary, I’d of gone ballistic at the builder. Hope he doesn’t get paid.

Brilliant work Gid - you seem to be an accomplished bricky too! How on earth did the customer end up with such crap builders? Thanks for posting and great to see you back again!

I've been looking forward to this series since you showed us around. Was just catching up on your older videos last night coincidentally, there is still a lot I haven't seen. Guess I'll have to have another evening in front of the KZbin soon.

You're some gadgie Gid lad. If ever you're fancying a bit of graft up in the beautiful county of Durham, I've loads here to do. 😆 I would give an arm an a leg to have someone with your skills to call on. Too few and far between are your kind mate.

Good job there Gid you were up against it from the start mate, you can only follow what's already there, and with 1/4 bed joints as well. That builder did a crap job!!

I'm not a brickie, and neither is the so called builder. Very loose term, builder. If you're a brickie your a brickie. If you're a joiner your a joiner. Neither would call themselves " A Builder " . You're obviously a better brickie than whoever done that.

150mm minimum bearing for lintel. that is Sh1t brickwork, did he ride a horse to work ?
@rodgerq4 жыл бұрын
Very poor work from the builder by the looks of it. I'm sure there's a minimum land for a lintel. Those old concrete precast steps are brutally heavy! Had 8 to remove from my garden. Being an 11st weakling I was lucky enough to have the use of a Stihl saw.

We thought about it, it's still not right but I'm always reluctant to get people back, if he couldn't do it right first time? 🤔😞 🤷♂️
