Absolutely stunning. And I love that the room is minimalist without tons of things on walls and surfaces. Can’t wait for more.

Thanks. Yes, I'm trying to keep the rooms pared down. I don't want to be surrounded by a bunch of stuff, or spend my time cleaning and maintaining said stuff. I'd rather be out working in my garden, walking on the beach or exploring the area :)

Thanks. The dining room definitely has a very calm feel to it. It's one of my favorite rooms. And it's kind of crazy how well our furniture worked with the furniture that we bought from the previous owners. It all just feels like it belonged together :)

Ha! I've been trying to place your accent more specifically than just "Southern"-and Tennessee was the guess that I kept coming back to. (Now watch it turn out that you tell me you spent your whole life in Texas or some other state until you had just a year in Tennessee before moving to France.)

My accent is a bit of a mash up :) I spent my first 18 years in Northern Virginia (Washington, D.C. area, so no southern accent at that point. But, 26 years in TN definitely changed that a bit. Of course, a native Tennessean would still tell you I have a northern accent :) We'll see what living in France does to my accent after a couple decades :)

@@MyFrugalHomeinFrance , I think you have a very pleasant way of talking in these videos-not only your accent, but also the rhythm and the volume and the decently built sentences. I've wanted to hold your videos up to some friends as examples and say "See? I wish more young people would talk as pleasantly as she does!" But then I add 18 and 26 and get my own age, which is (obviously) not younger than I am. I moved nine times across ten time-zones in the first twenty years of my life, so I don't have the stability that you have in having your first eighteen years in Virginia. But I'll tell you what's funny: from age 6 to 10, I lived in Northern Virginia, close to D.C., thinking I had no Southern accent, but living with the linguistic influence of parents who had grown up in Florida and Georgia; at 10, I moved to another state-and there the kids made fun of me for my Southern accent. I don't know whether they were hearing the influence of my parents' accents, or a subtle Southern influence of Northern Virginia, or what. I think the part of your accent that sounds the most Tennessee is your long-I sounds, as in "my", "driveway", "time". I think the influence of French on this sound in particular will be interesting to gauge as the years go by-because some French accents pronounce English I-sounds in a way that's kind of Southern. Enough of my babble. Thank you for the reply. Maybe one day I'll learn what took you from Tennessee to Normandy.

I like your labeled bins! Is the machine near that doorway a dehumidifier?

Thanks. It's an air purifier. With such a big open fireplace, it helps to keep the air quality in the room good in the winter.

Nifty story about the table! I'm curious: were you expecting some dishes to break in the move? Was there any particular reason for such an expectation? I've moved across the Atlantic four times, and nary a dish was broken.

Initially, I just figured it wouldn't be unusual to have a few things break in a move. Then, the ship our container was on got caught in a 100 mph storm, so I didn't know what condition our stuff would be in when it arrived. Luckily, nearly everything made the journey without damage. I really can't complain about a couple broken dishes :)

@@MyFrugalHomeinFrance , only the last of my four overseas move involved much damage. Everything was fine on the Atlantic. Then, at the American port, the crates (containing furniture, cardboard boxes, &c.) were removed from the ship and put on a flatbed truck. Somebody failed to secure the giant waterproof tarps over a few of the crates. Rain came. Water-damage to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars.
