i like dark cottagecore because it a combination between dark academia and cottagecore and here's how: cottagecore has a feeling of coziness and security, doing everything yourself from teas, crochet, art mixed with plants and flower blooms, through dark academia add to it the darker hue of the colors, the rain, the books and intellectual calm and the overall rainy cloudy atmosphere

@@dantierandbalogh I really loved your witchy cottage episode. (I’ve watched it many many times lol) I think in the design world there’s a distinct lack of witchy/pagan -organic biophilic- decor for each season and of course Yule. I believe witchcore and it’s profound connection with nature will soon surpassed the ‘kitschy’ cottage core craze, as this is something we can all sink out teeth into. I’d love to see your take on bringing magic and nature into our homes for every season. Personally I’m into moody aesthetics with lots of candle light and a pot of something delicious slowly simmering on the wood stove but that just me lol ~Scarlett

I read the Twilight series when I was 52. My niece loaned me her copies. I would read until late into the night and go to work after a couple hours of sleep. I was obsessed. I don't usually like reading novels so that really was unusual behavior for me. I hope you read them someday. You won't be disappointed.

It's a little hard for me to fathom that Dark Cottagecore would be hard to combine with Dark Academia, since Dark Cottagecore the way you have presented it here seems like it would be so nourishing to the intellect and imagination. I bet it would mesh just fine with some of the other Academias, though, like Green Academia, Witchy Academia, Goblin Academia, or Autumn Academia. Even Light Cottagecore could be combined with Pastel Academia, Coquette Academia, Fairy Academia, Romantic Academia, or Floral Academia, I bet. Okay, yes, the aesthetics have become one of my new special interests, in case you haven't guessed, lol!
@tete-rh5xo7 ай бұрын
yeah I think she may have some misconceptions about dark academia as for her to think its not similar to dark cottagecore in any way is a bit bizarre. Most of the dark cottagecore inspo pictures she showed of architecture, furniture and decoration are things that are also often assosiated with the dark academia aesthetic
@ditzydoodle83813 ай бұрын
I always tried finding my 'style' and I always liked cottagecore, but like you said, with a darker edge. Kind of like a witch in the woods vibe, with frogs, mushrooms, and mist like I'm a cryptid in the forest tending to a garden. XD So this is perfect for me, get both the humble vibes of baking bread and hugging a kitten, but also with the darker mysterious almost horror edge to it. Let's me blend the two dualities I thought wouldn't mix.

This is pretty much the interior design style of my house. Not that I actually planned it that way but it sort of ended up like that so I might was well keep it going! Incidentally, some of these spaces featured here I wouldn't consider dark cottage core but rather rustic cabin in my opinion.
@dantierandbalogh11 ай бұрын
That's true Patrick! I like to think once the interior architecture is complete and materials lined, with home decor and textiles etc added, it would then all come together. Ideally I would find images that explain my point exactly, however it's very hard😅 If I had more time to produce them, I would make full 3D models & rendered images of the final design (as I'm an interior architect by trade). Thanks for your comment🤗🤗

I was wondering if you might have suggestions on how to combine elements of different styles. For example, I currently live with my parents and have a very beachy room but have been looking into both Cottagecore and Dark Cottagecore stuff lately and was hoping to find some ideas on combining the furniture I have (which isn’t overly themely except for some knick knack pieces). I will also admit that while I don’t have an apartment right now, because I am searching for full time work, I am hoping to eventually get an apartment but if I do, I don’t know if I will likely have parts I have to keep/work around. I will admit that I also would love any suggestions on creating a more masculine cottage core. I am currently leaning towards Dark Cottage Core because traditional cottage core is a bit too feminine for me and Dark Cottage core feels more neutral if not masculine Edit: I also wondered what you would suggest for walls if we aren’t fans of wall paper. Generally I don’t like wall paper and prefer painted walls so I thought I would ask. I also don’t care for floral print furniture but do like other ways that incorporate floral and botanical designs such as small stitching/embroidery, paintings, carving and metal work.

Wow. I have not seen snow since 2009. OMG, these rooms are GREAT! Maybe I've found my natural style! Probably wouldn't work in the Arizona desert, though. @@annbrookens945 Ha-ha. Well, maybe. My place IS dark already, after all. I live in an older place (built in 1975) that is pretty tiny by current American standards. I have windows only on the west and east side, and they face block walls and have overhangs over them, which means very low energy (cooling) bills but no view and little light. Most people would scoff at the lack of natural light, but I chose the place mostly for the neighborhood and location (much closer to work at the time). Anyway, with small, naturally dark rooms and 8-ft ceilings, I'm hesitant to go with the darker greens and woods for fear of the place being less dark cottage core and more mideival dungeon. On the other hand, some decorators on KZbin have said that dark colors are okay and that it is okay to "celebrate the smallness." I think that's possible if you don't have claustrophobia LOL. It's one thing to enjoy seeing a room and another thing to live in them. Eh. I'm okay with what I have. Although the building is mid-century, it is only mid-century (minus the "modern"). I have, however, done the living/dining area in mostly mid-century modern furniture with a touch of just "mid-century." With buttery yellow walls, dominant colors are oranges, reds, golds with some metals. I do really love the style of the rooms in this video, though.

Hi Tim! Omg wait a minute... 50°C??? 🤣 that's the opposite of where I live 😆😆 We will I'm sure have more snow in the new year!❄️ It depends on how comfortable you are living in a dark environment- I would say dark always works as long as you balance it out with lightning! But of course energy bills will rise😁 I love that you have a midcentury home (we are doing our interior midmod style! 😬). We changed our minds from country style 😆 And I love that you live in a completely different landscape to us, I find it so interesting . I will be doing a desert style/ southwestern style video next year 🤗🤗

@@dantierandbalogh Well, 50C was a record here (1990). Most summers, it only gets up to 47-48C LOL! Hey, three degrees makes a big difference! In the summer of 1990, my mom's shoes actually melted on her feet. According to Google, our temperatures are most similar to Baghdad's. Doesn't that make you want to come here? Glad you like midmod, too! I'm sure your place will be magazine-cover-worthy! Interesting that you think dark might work with adequate lighting. I don't think the lighting will increase the electric bills too much, though, with modern lightbulbs. Hmmm. Maybe I'll muster the courage. Although I "love color," I'm afraid of wasting time and money on a failed project that won't like. I LOVE your channel. I am looking forward to your desert/southwestern style episode! And don't forget our colorful Mexican decor, too! Here in Arizona, we see a lot of both styles and a lot of blending of the two. Arizona was once part of Mexico, and we do have a large Mexican/Mexican-American community that adds vibrancy to our otherwise Baghdadian beige environment. No need to respond! I live in New England, on the coast of Massachusetts, and the architecture here lends itself perfectly to the dark cottage core style. Many of the houses here range from early American styles that look like they have been here since the 1700s, complete with low ceilings and fireplaces in every room, to gothic revival houses, dripping with gingerbread trim, arched windows and doors, steep rooflines and turrets that look like they come right out of Grimm's Fairy Tales and are often surrounded with overgrown cottage gardens, perfect for a witches lair. Sadly, I don't own one of them, and live in a small apartment in the historic city of New Bedford. There are many sprawling Painted Ladies from the days when whaling fortunes were made during the Victorian era and have been restored nicely, complete with widows walks on the rooftops, stained glass windows and wrought iron fences. For many years my decorating style has been shabby chic, with white walls and painted furniture, pastels and pink roses. But now in my elder years, I find myself loving the dark cottage core style, with its deep, mysterious colors, featuring the nature of a dark misty forest, and witchy vibes, as all true Scorpios love. I dream of a big lottery win so I can have a little shabby chic cottage full of watery pastel colors by the ocean for the summer months, and a dark spooky Gothic cottage with a wild haunted garden to live in for the fall and winter months. An old lady can dream....
