The French cleaner Madame Remoleux is played by Valerie Lush. A remarkable character actress who died in May 2016 aged 97. She was regularly on the TV in the 1970s and beyond. She was more than capable of speaking French as she had been to a Swiss finishing school. She also spent a few years with the Royal Shakespeare Company. This show is pure situation comedy - harmless and relaxing to watch.

I worked with Val at the RSC in the 70s. She was very intelligent and committed to her parts, and always very kind. I'm quite sure she could speak French! Every once in a while in this part I see that mischievous glint in her eyes when she's about to do a bit she really enjoys.

I'm sure that is the case for the actress. But for the show, her part is a nuisance I'll take "it's Sonya" over Mm. Remoleux any day.

It’s good to know. 😄👍

@@yodude832Isn't it strange? Both characters are for negative comic relief, being annoying in one way or another, yet Sonya is a beloved character and the French housekeeper is just annoying. My theory is that she is annoying because all she does is mumble in French; if she had spoken English to a greater degree, perhaps she might have been better liked.

Thank you!! I am in Florida, it is hot and humid and September when it should be cool. Add to that a sinus headache. This made me laugh and feel much better. Bless you

FRESH Fields, in the UK, had a touch of reality/ FRENCH Fields, however, lost all reality and was an elitist bore. McKenzie with her perfect hair and makeup at all times, constantly obsessed with appearances and food. Both of them acting like they have millions of dollars. All very fake, phony and elitist. I suppose it worked in the Thatcher years, but it's an embarrassment today. ( Anyone else wonder where Hester kept her 24 hour hair stylist, out there in rural France? Come on...)

Keep your stupid comments to urself. Nobody wants to hear ure stupid analysis... If u don't enjoy watching these sitcoms without ure bloody analysis don't bother coming here and disturbing the peace of others watching it.

find out what this fear is About God, you are a misery, aren’t you? You must be great fun at parties. The thing with the hair - that was how some women had there hair then. My mother certainly did. And managed to style it herself everyday without looking like an old boot. It’s a gentle easy comedy. It’s not meant to be a social bloody commentary (unlike everything these days). Just relax.
@3shellyiam5 жыл бұрын
I don't find anything particularly snobby about this couple. You must be a young male with little experience with women. The average woman doesn't get their hair styled by a hairdresser every day. In the 80s women had highly styled hair as that was the fashion. We women tend to know how to style our own hair and apply make up. Nothing in this show communicates they have millions. They show worries about money in several occasions like not being able to raise enough money to buy the house they rent. This is a very entertaining show its a shame you were so focused on triviality like hair and makeup to enjoy the laughs.

" ( Anyone else wonder where Hester kept her 24 hour hair stylist, out there in rural France? Come on...) " It's called 80s hairspray. It's the reason there's a hole in the ozone layer
