Jane and Mike, I love when you show us your shopping hauls! Obviously many items available are different for different geographic areas. (Don’t know why folks would not understand that. ). And I love that you take the time to show us the total cost breakdown for each country. It is so interesting! Thank you for sharing your hauls!

Well done for prioritising healthy meals through frugal know how. I've always read your blogs when you were on the UK & now I thoroughly enjoy your youtube videos in Brittany. You both have worked so extremely hard over many years to build this wonderful life you now have. May you both always thrive & continue to have such a wonderful relationship. Frugality is about prioritisation, decisions & executing those decisions - you both excel in this field. We are also extremely frugal so thoroughly enjoy watching others who live as we do. Enjoy the fruits of your labour 😉

We spent a month in the EU,shopping and making our meals. Between Italy, Austria, Germany, France and Spain. In each of there were bargains to be had, and there were some things that were higher in price than the country before, or after that country. In France we had a fabulous vegetable, and fruit stand just outside our Airbnb at great prices, so we ate loads of fresh fruits and vegetables. In Austria we found a small local Turkish grocery store and the prices were great and we tried lots of new to us items. Shop the specials not matter where you shop, plan your menu around deals that you find, don't insist on a menu before finding the sale priced items 😋. Jane you are correct that you can see prices pretty much have gone up everywhere, just learn to shop wisely. Shop sales, special offers, and seasonally to get the best value for your money.

Hi from Nova Scotia today. That lamb was an amazing buy. Congrats on that! I’m certain you will enjoy every last morsel. Here in my house we are enjoying the literal “ fruits of our labour” in the form of frozen strawberries, has caps and blueberries from last summer. I feel so blessed each morning when I dip into my yogurt and defrosted berries.

You got some great deals. You explained the difference in prices very well. The average person does not understand that just because what you pay for something is less than what they would in their country it isn't any cheaper for you. I feel ones food costs are very much subject to what one eats and if you buy at full price or wait for a sale. In todays world we really need to be watching for sales and watching for rebates and money back on store cards and credit cards (if you use)

Great haul. Interesting to see the price differences for france and uk. From 2022 to 2023 our food bill was £19 higher, not the £880 more than i saw they were claiming it was .that was because like you we were going after the deals. I like to play the supermarkets at their own game your proving it can be done.

What you were trying to say is the cost of living is higher in other countries. Sort of like Tucker going to Russia and saying that food is cheaper. 134.00 isn't much for some people in a certain country, but, it may be their whole paycheck in another country. I'm in the U.S. and my income this week is 176.00, I have 400.00 worth of bills to pay this month, groceries are to expensive I get my 400.00 put together with a little set aside for savings. Although times are hard right now I refuse to get into my emergency fund, how do I know they won't get worse. I believe people want to think there is sun shine and roses somewhere else, and they we aren't all suffering. They see their neighbors with nice houses and fancy cars and think they are doing good not knowing that they are eating ramen every night and have maxed out their cards. They want to blame the leader's of their countries for high prices, and not see that it's every country going through the same thing. Thanks for the video.

Hello, I'm from Minnesota USA. We also are experiencing a hike In food prices, along with products across the board. My husband and I are retired. We live fairly frugal on our ss. We've been practicing putting up foods and supplies for several years now. I can say that we sleep much better for it. We worked hard to rid ourselves of debt. However, the rise in prices like electric and gas make for a competitive game. I personally like a challenge. It makes rely on my ingenuity. I love your KZbin. I appreciate your caveat about food prices relative to income at the beginning of the video. How well you did for the money Jane. 😃 Especially such large amounts of meat that will no doubt go a long way. Meat here in the UK is so expensive now. Also olive oil has gone ridiculous. Thanks to you both for this video and for taking the time to price it all🤗

On the frugal vlogs from the UK I watch, I'm amazed by how much cheaper some of the food is there. The cauliflowers are really good at the moment aren't they? Our little local Carrefour contact, not usually a source of bargains, has had some dear little ones for €1.20 - I find it a struggle to get through a big one - with plenty of good leaves on too! Baked beans (those U ones aren't bad at all) freeze well, I've discovered. Still got lamb chops in the freezer from a trip up to the Bay of Mont St Michel last year, pré-salé ones from a little butchers in Cherrueix, a coastal village there. Only lamb we buy and eat here these days, a bit pricey but we eke them out and savour every mouthful. Roll on Easter! Blé noir, often called sarrasin these days, is buckwheat. Always enjoy your shopping hauls!

I do, our GSD has HD and he's still young (3 years) and I'll use my slowcooker(s) to make the gelatine and I'll freeze it and use it in his food to give him some extra gelatine so his body can use it where it's needed. What a great deal on the lamb! I’m in California and it tends to be pretty expensive too but I sometimes get it on sale as well. People always complain about the cost of meat, but I find there is usually something on sale if we’re not too picky. We have 6 people in our house so it’s very helpful to pick things up on sale and work our menu around that.

Yes please for the Lancashire hotpot or/ and lamb recipes. Have you heard of the water scandal that involved brands like Perrier, Vittel, Contrex, Hépar and Cristaline? Is that solved now?

I do love a shopping haul! I was in Aldi today, planning on lamb shoulder for the w/end, but they were so tiny and almost £10! The aubergines were also v v small, priced at 95p, so left those as well. We love pork/ham hocks, but don't see them often, rarely at our butchers. I did find some stewing lamb, circles of lamb neck, will be lovely in the slow cooker. I always think the fresh fruit and veg you buy looks such a good size and really fresh.

I enjoyed watching this. The crepes made by local people are interesting -- well, the crepes themselves are interesting but the people who make them sound interesting with their cottage industry.

I was using the " flashfood " app here in Canada but you had to pick up the food that day, so I was going several times a week and realized the cost of bus fare and time was not worth it in the end. I now try to stock up on sale items and cook meals cheaply as possible. Today I made 4 mince and onion pies in small tins to have 2 meals out of them, made a huge salad and we eat that for lunch every day. I have noticed that my recipes do cost more now with inflation, eg butter and eggs, I was paying $2.99 for butter it's now $5.00 when on sale, if not $6.50. Some of my dessert recipes call for a pound of butter { 2 cups ) so I'm not making them as often.

that's a good haul!! Ble Noir is Buckwheat...which is Gluten Free, I actually add it into my bread and cookies, gives a nuttier flavour. Unfortunately we don't have a SuperU close by or a L'Eclerc so I'd need to do a monthly shop or a big stock up to justify the Diesel.....if we are out an about tho I would combine a food shop with whatever we are doing.

It's slow roasted and then served with mint sauce afterwards. Chop the fresh mint very finely and steep in sweetened vinegar with sugar.

Love hearing how you get bargains, I feed 4 grown men so find it cheaper to buy whole chickens, leg of lamb, pork shoulders. I stocked up on massive leg of lambs as was super cheap at $8.99/kg in Australia. I get two meals and lunches out of the size I bought. Will definitely remember to look at the same time next year. I would love to see your Lancashire hot pot. Thanks Jane and Mike for all your hard work :) we are 5-7 years away from retirement so your videos are super helpful. Hope the girls are doing well❤

The lamb we’re able to get occasionally costs about 10.00 per pound. (Is that over 20.00 per kilo?) I don’t remember where it comes from but i think it’s imported, too. My husband loves the chops or i wouldn’t buy them. (I’m vegetarian) Fabulous haul! That will last quite awhile.
