This is actually one of the best and detailed explanation video I've ever seen on KZbin explaining this drum stick technique.

Actually Bill Bachman shows it better, to really work your wrists keep your hands closer to your body. it's really hard, especially your left hand. Check it out

Detailed, succinct, and entirely to the point (plus no showing off!). Cheers for this - very helpful.

The most humble drummer ever, you were educational and you didn't make anyone feel bad if they couldn't play as fast as you.

Thank you so much for this vid! It's been years I've been using a bad hand technique for the french grip. Now everything is clear.

Thank you for doing this video. This is the best instruction I've ever seen for the whole explanation of the mechanics, even against paid for DVD's and lessons. As others have said best video ever!!!!! Thanks again!

You confirmed all my things, I have learnt everything by myself without anything. And I optimized the french grip despite of its difficulty, according to my needs, just like playing with all fingers and aligning the stick perfectly ( which I cant do with my left hand yet)

Very helpful. I find French to be the most comfortable grip but have had trouble with the mechanics of doubles. Thank you!

thank you so so so much!!! I've had a bad habit of keeping the butt of the stick to far from the palm causing that very flat looking formation you showed towards the end of the video. Multiple drum buddies of mine have told me to stop blasting with French grip because they say you lose power and control. witch is wrong. look at white Chaples old drummer ben. he blast using french grip and has no problem with power or control. I also find french grip easier on the joints. So thank you for this video ive searched multiple times to find someone who can explain why im struggling to keep that stick snug and thanks to you i now know why.

from a muscular, even deep sense of balance, the french grip allows the elbows arms and hands to come to a more natural position to start with, aligning itself with the frontal abdominal part of the body(chest), that plays a part in the process of a long, enduring drum playing.

So you also need to practice utilizing all 4 fingers basically? Iv been consistently practicing but really only practicing and isolating my other 3 fingers, would getting the index finger up to speed with the rest of the fingers increase speed overall?

what type/size of drumstick do you use?
@Ironsvillage
@Ironsvillage 10 жыл бұрын
as always, size doesn't matter. it's all personal preference. i like to use vic firth 55a or 55xa (bit longer than 55a). but you can use 5b, 5a, 7a even the marching sticks which are huge. best thing would be to go to your local music store and try out some sticks.
