French House Renovation - 2016-2017

We bought this property in 2012 and have been working on it since 2013. Like most DIY projects, we are moving much slower than expected. Moving house and changing jobs in 2016 slowed thing down even more, but we are back at it again! This video focuses on the conversion of a 'hanger' or small barn into a loft apartment. It includes the work we did in Spring and Summer of 2016 along with a two week trip in October 2017.

This is quite fascinating! So you are doing the renovation yourselves? How difficult is that when you're not in country full-time?

We started this when I was working in the Middle East and had summers off. Now that we are back in the U.S. we have much less time. It is taking longer than expected, but we are moving forward as best we can. Sometime I will make a video about the pros and cons of the way we have gone about this.

So how much more have you done ? God, I applaud you and your son (I assume !) for your patience - I renovated a 6 bed masion maitre empty for 15 years in six months ! butI did have a french team but I spoke no French, they no English ! Was still hanging curtains when the first guests arrived. No longer have the B&B but still live here in France, retired ! Would love to see any more updates. Regards.

We will be back this summer so I should post another video in August or September. The long term plan is to make the property into three small houses. This is the first (and maybe the most work), so we have a long way to go. Especially now that we are back in the US with limited holiday time. Our son helped us the first summer, but other than that it has been me and my wife - and a couple of contractors for the septic system and electricity. It is great to have people cheering us on!

Я американец, который жил в нескольких разных странах, но купил дом во Франции. Я узнал, что каждая страна делает вещи по-своему. Изоляция внутри обычная во Франции. Я смотрел на то, как положить изоляцию снаружи, и было бы трудно найти материалы.

@@kbzuercher французы утепляют изнутри скорее всего потому,что у них достаточно тёплый климат,если сравнивать с Россией, но внешнее утепление дома гораздо эффективнее чем внутреннее! Так как вы сейчас живёте во Франции,то посоветуйте нашим французским друзьям,что дом будет теплее,если его утеплить с улицы!
