Things got really messed up from 70 and beyond....
@bozrose77168 жыл бұрын
Not if you know how it works, look when they say 70 they say:"Soixante-dix" well soixante is 60, and dix is 10, so 60+10=70. Thats how it works and after 10 comes 11, thats why it's "soixante-onze" etc. 80 is quatre-vingts well here we go again, quatre is 40 and vingt(s) is 20 so... 40x2(0)=80 and then you got 90 and that's "quatre-vingt-dix" that means 40x2(0)+10=90. then you go on counting the same way as 70. "quatre-vingt-dix" (90)- "Quatre-vingt-onze"(91). I hope you understand it more now... I tried my best X3

I am a native English speaker, then learned Spanish in high school and finishing up college in the next year or two, I’m fluent. And because of this I have gained an appreciation for other languages and like looking at the etymology of words and where they come from, so having your video with 1 to 100 all spoken out like you have with your wonderful accent, is great. I love seeing the similarities and differences between the language is and how they’ve branched off over time. 😎

oh, the numbers in spanish are just delightful, i learned them till 100 with my bff on video call, it was really fun, especially me being native in a latin language and spanish being a latin language, it's pretty easy ngl.

@@codplayer8728 I completely agree. Sometimes I have wondered about becoming fluent in more languages. I would like to, and I have the rest of my life to do so.

Thank you! It’s so strange for English speakers when at school learning the French numbers. We did 1 to 10, all good. Then 11 to 16, no problem. Then trouble and confusion starts at 17-19. What you suddenly have to say 10+7 = 17. Plain sailing from 20 to 69. Then things got confusing again. English equivalent of say 71 would be ‘Sixty and Eleven’. Then 81 would be ‘Four twenty’s and one’. Then 91 would ‘Four twenty’s and eleven’. I always wondered why the French don’t just have a single word for 70, 80 & 90! It’s all very interesting and good fun. It just means when I speak my limited French I have the do a mathematical calculation to remember how to say the 70,80,90’s numbers! Merci. 😁

Hi Alexa. I love watching your videos. They make learning French so much easier. One question though, when counting in the 80's do we pronounce the 'n' in vingt in quatre-vingt?
@learnfrenchwithalexa3 жыл бұрын
Yes you do, but not the T. So it would sound a bit like 'CAT-RE-VAN' :) Thanks for your lovely comments!

The French were like “Soixante-Six” what comes next???!!! “Soixante-sept??!” “Non Idiot, I got it…Soixante-dix-sept” “but wouldn’t that make it 70107?” “NON IDIOT YOU MULTIPLE THE 10 and 7 then add another 7. Mon Diue” “wouldn’t it be easier to just stick with the pattern and call it Soixante-huit??” “Qui but we are French nothing is ever simple with us, now what are we gonna call after Soicant-dix-neuf??” “Oh Mon Dieu”🤦♂️🤦♂️

It's a good video! My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

You can make it slower by pressing the three dots and then playback speed
@caroldesousa79004 жыл бұрын
@@elisewatkins6153 true but that isn't going to make the pause longer between the next number and it will distort the real pronunciation. I have the same trouble, hopefully I will get fast enough to keep up one day.
