My husband left for a trip to Germany and didn't realize he was going to be there fro two weeks instead of one. He is diabetic and so he went to a German pharmacy with is script bottles explained the situation. He was paying about $200 a month even with our copay. He paid full retail price and received in Germany ....and the pharmacy sold him 3 months worth of medicine all blister packed except for insulin of course for 80 Euros. We were shocked! yes we need to reform so much here pertaining to drug costs.

I am just now seeing this video, and all I can say is, WOW! So impressive and so far ahead of how things are run in pharmacies here in the U.S. (and the pharmaceutical industry in general). Also, with worldwide doctor shortages, I love that the French people are progressive thinkers in allowing "boo-boo" treatment and tele-med appointments to ease the burden of less serious calls on doctors' offices. C'est super!

Yes generics are cheaper and more and more common, but we generally keep the "branded" available in pharmacy, with a extra fee that is reimbursed only if your body didn't tolerate the generic at the first take (or if your dedicated Doc asked for the branded with justifications). Of course generics are better reimbursed.

Coming from Europe, I was shocked when I first visited a pharmacy in the US and found such a large selection of non-pharmaceutical products there…..including some very unhealthy ones! As a healthcare professional, I should point out that robotic dispensing systems and individual packaging of medications are commonplace in hospital pharmacies in western countries. Most people would not be aware of this.

I work as a pharmacy tech in the US, for cvs, and this is amazing to see. I wish we had a system to repurpose medications people don't finish - so long as they aren't expired. I love that the medications don't go to waste. I've had people pick up medication, find they have a reaction to it or something they don't need is filled, and we can't take back medications .So they put it in the bin we have for collections...and it's just destroyed. I also like that they give you the box from the company that makes the medications. Here things come in massive bottles, 500 count...1,000 count...ect. So we can't just give over stock bottles typically. I don't mind how we put labels, with printed directions, onto the bottles/boxes/ect that we give out. But having personal information isn't needed really. So many thigns I like about how they do things in France, especially how it's not also a grocerystore, does your pictures, and other things.

What a fun visit! I am enuf of a fossil to recall when US pharmacies were organized quite like French pharmacies of today -- owner-operated and filled with only medicines and, most importantly, the health and beauty products that my elementary and middle school friends and I would spend hours contemplating ... 'which shampoo should I try this week, strawberry or peach?' 'should we get started with that wrinkle cream this year?' Modern US pharms morphing into convenience stores has some advantages but IMHO none of those advantages beats the atmosphere and offering of old school pharmacies!

I will try and share this with my LinkedIn colleagues; much of the technology has been adopted in the US but it is at one or 2 centralized locations and not accessible to pedestrian traffic. Very refreshing that pharmacists can spend more time with consults with patients and docs and do MTM (Medication Therapy Management) instead of telling people where the diet soda is.

Il mesure la taille de la boîte... ce qui implique qu'il connaisse aussi la taille des places libres !! Cela me rappelle bigrement la gestion de la mémoire dans un ordinateur !
