It's an odd line. I probably won't review the T8 & 9, can't imagine them to be much better. The only French things I enjoy so far are the BBs.

For me the Brest was the best of the line. Marseille so far hasn't clicked for me, I don't think its very good. That extra turret and size over Brest really doesn't help at all.

This ship should get a 10 second reload for main guns, better torpedo protection and massively improved dispersion. Then the Marseille would actually be good

10s reload would be too much. Yoshino has 9x310mm with 13s, give her 15s with the RRs. I don't expect French guns to be accurate, that's usually compensated for by having a lot of them (which the Marseille does not), firing them quickly (which the Marseille does not) or getting close enough that even those can't miss (which the Marseille can't do).

Yeah good point, I was saying that because there is almost no way for the ship to do anything impactful in battle because all of its stats are very mediocre.

The torpedo damage reduction is a huge problem in a ship that size. Cv’s are going to eat that ship alive. They either have to up the AA so Cv’s don’t focus it or they have to give it way more torpedo damage reduction.

that makes little to no sense. cruisers dont care about torpedo damage reduction, theres none made to whitstand that. the abbreviation for aircraft carriers is cv and theres no good french cruiser made to defend against planes reliably, or of any other nation beside american and dutch

@@viciousgrin9044 it’s not a CL it’s a super cruiser and most of the other ones have better damage reduction and AA. They could have also gave it Colbert level AA or given aa3 instead of aa1. You can also doge torps way easier in the other smaller cruisers is my point. One that large with 12% torpedo damage reduction is going to get destroyed by good Cv players.

Its less the ship is bad more the ship is niche. The ship is definitely better than the Petro and Goliath. This ship is here for Super cruiser enjoyers. I have seen good damage been put on in this ships by some people. Although not a ship for everyone. Though do keep in mind this ship has a hidden mechanic. If you hold down the fire button, the main guns get progressively more accurate. Hiromi figured this out and it makes the ship very interesting. I know I will probably get this ship since it seems very fun and I love super cruisers. (Like Stalingrad, and Moskva) If you want to live in this ship you need to really learn how to use auto aim off, and hug islands, so only the front guns can be seen by the enemy. This is not a ship you sit on the flank with open water. Islands are going to be your best friend in this ship, so just hug them. Now I know some people will not enjoy this ship, which makes sense. Super cruisers are not easy to learn or play. However once learned these ships can be dangerous.

I don't mind island hugging, it should be the preferred style for assault cruisers anyway, but what I do mind is the positively abysmal dispersion, especially vertical. Now admittedly, I'm not a fan of supercruisers to begin with, since what I like about cruisers is the capability to "be where needed" and pick up the slack anywhere on the battlefield. I've been experimenting with disabling lock-on, and I find it hard to use that at range, since it reduces the magnification on the view, making it rather hard to aim at a phone screen. I use it more at closer ranges to avoid hitting the belt. I'll try the "continuous fire" you described, that does sound interesting. I'm generally using salvo fire, since it allows me to look around during the reload, but if it improves dispersion on this thing, it might be worth it

Moskva I'm ok with, she's precise and can make the guns work at max range with APCS. Goliath I haven't touched since she came out, and I'd need some alcohol to play Petro again....

As always thx for review , for me , and so far TVIII and TIX have been very fun , yes they require a very specific style of gameplay , however , o find this to be a lot of fun , I can not yet speak to TX, but I am confident that it will also be high fun factor . Super Cruiser Cruising is very challenging , but once you get that aha , light switch moment , probably the most fun you can have playing .

I'll do a follow-up and see if I can make something work. There were a couple of suggestions in the comments - single-battery fire, manual aim (which I'm not a huge fan of, but worth checking) and APCS are candidates.

Good work Terry😊I got the Brest from the crate, the dispersion was so shitty that I even doubted my gunnery went wrong😂 The penetration is nowhere near the Dutch ones😢 The combination of the terrible dispersion and low pen makes her RR skill set not an advantage but a compensation.

@@FunandGameswithTerry I still remember when I saw your schedule of this week, I commented:”this would be the only big cruiser you might enjoy”. Now I just want to slap those words onto my face and swallow them😂 I had played Brest for 26 battles and her win rate is 43% 🙁 even my Henry gets to 58%. The HE damage is decent but the fire chance is not that high especially with an incredibly low accuracy.

@@FunandGameswithTerry I compared these French ships I have (Republique,Henry,Brest and Bourgogne) I found out that they generally have a terrible vertical dispersion. That means they are bad at hitting slim targets like Worcester, Petro and Venezia etc.

Can you try this line with both APCS and IHFE. Generally IHFE is worthless but with the bad pen on both, IHFE may be better with it.

Ark Royal is Great gut Nothing Special (Same Setup as illustrious, carpet bombers also arent Special anymore). Certainly a Good ship but with saipan and Kaga at the Same Tier there are better premium cvs. However of you love cvs i recommemd you Go try ist out

You say she is massive but according to WG is actually smaller than Henri IV..... I haven't get the Henri myself but I have get my hand on Saint Louis and so far I'm liking that thing (Definitely more than Charles Martel and Algerie) and I thought you might like to take a look at her.

I'm by no means a proponent of CV snipes, but I've seen what those AP bombs can do to carriers... it's tempting, and I've seen it happen

It is the gray line between Henry IV and Republique, and a bad one at that. If you want the ambushing fast ship, just get the former. If you want more armor and tankiness, just get the latter. There's no other reason to get this ship than the first two except if you despise CVs so much you want AA skill even if it's only level 1. And you badly need the dispersion mod. It sucks.

Dispersion module isn't going to fix this thing.. it's only 7%. The French generally compensate for their shotguns with either speed & getting up close and personal, or sheer volume of fire. This thing can't do either, like you said, it's a weird place between the two, where it's left unable to do much...

I get weird responses from you CCs when I say this but I’ve had more fun since I decided to forgo the improved speed boost captain skill for demo expert and swallowed my pride and started every battle by loading HE, and really only using AP when rushing down a BB or midrange sniping a cruiser from behind cover. She’s a shotgun and some damage + fires+ modules is better than all half pens and bounces. Speaking of shotgun, you ever sit in stealth behind a rock and just stare in awe as an oblivious Montana crosses your bow and you unload AP at point blank into their superstructure, it feels like torping in a shima.

Okay well, that's also a clear nope from me. I don't even have it. I just saw it and had a bad feeling. Armor, reload, guns... I felt it's not a ship that's gonna work under normal circumstances... It can't do that much dmg, like some light cruisers, is heavy but not armored like a BB and doesn't even have torpedos. And your video proofed everything and more. The dispersion should be outstanding, 3 guns in front, but this is dreadful. Thank you for that great review. Will still focus on my hindenburg grind. I started the one for the Demoines, but actually broke up, because I don't like the way the ships out of the line are played. Don't know why, so i started the German grind and the hipper is awesome and I expect the hindenburg to be even better. Tier 10, more dmg and stuff.

Compare that to a Yoshino (yes, given, that's a premium). 14km range, 13s reload on 310s. Give this thing 14 or 15s, then we're talking. You'll get 4 shells on target, for maybe 2k per salvo. Want to hear a funny story? I tested the first game against bots, and did an easy 140k, simply due to proximity targeting allowing me to sail in the open. The theoretical dps is there, but you can't use it, since you have to play range.

I would have loved to get finally something good for french navy. As am french. dd/light cruiser player, i will continue to play daring and Mino... My hopes will go now on pan Asian cruisers... Any idea what they will look likes? (DWTorps, sonar, rapid fire guns with good fires probs I guess, and no armor).

There are some really good French premium light cruisers, and the battleship line, once you're past the Normandie, which wasn't very good in reality either, is actually quite good. De Grasse and La Galissonnière are excellent mid-tiers, and I love my Richelieu and Dunkerque. That said, since they were already busy making up super cruisers, I'd have loved to see a full light cruiser tech tree line instead.

No idea about the PA cruisers yet, but I'd assume deep water torpedoes. We've got Irian, which is a Sverdlov, if I'm not mistaken, and Dalian, which are both Soviet designs, so I'm hoping we'll see maybe something lighter than the Nevsky-line, scout cruisers of sorts... I quite enjoyed Dalian.

I mean, if it has Dunkerque guns, then it has Dunkerque dispersion. I play Dunkerque here and there, and my gosh, while you can get away with its... questionable dispersion, in Tier X, yea no way. I did consider starting my grind in the French cruisers and take the split, but nah, I'd rather play the regular French cruisers. Although who knows, I might play these ships one day.

I actually like the Dunkerque - dispersion is funny, but the layout allows her to play defensively pretty well, with the occasional rush. She works because it's T6. This thing would need either better reload or better dispersion to work at T10 imo, and the AP isn't just punchy enough, either, for my taste. As it is, she's a damage piñata

@@FunandGameswithTerry That's what I like about the Dunkerque. Even then, I still struggle to get full pens on anything (if I hit that is). Better dispersion might do the trick and maybe buffing the AP shells to hurt enemy ship. Marseille is the ship that will fire at the broadside of an Omaha and get bounces before it gets at least a semi pen.

Angling mechanics, or rather the lack thereof, mean that any cruiser here needs to rely on cover and manoeuvrability to dodge incoming BB fire, since they can't tank it. This, imo, is the single biggest reason supercruisers often don't work well. The ones that do tend to be Soviet, since they have excellent accuracy at range (and range is what can save them from large calibre shells), except Petro, which is just bad.

Yeah, I'll be playing around with a more static island camper style, that won't require turret traverse. I was seeing the intent more on mobility, given the good manoeuvrability and speed, but maybe "throw enough shit at the wall and something will stick" is the way to go.

Yup, pretty much. I'm used to French guns having hilarious dispersion, but there's usually something that can compensate for it, like lots of guns or the ability to get close.

I found Algerie to be a let-down after the excellent T6 light cruiser. I wish they had a CL branch instead of the supercruisers... I'll do a follow-up video, not next week, but the week after, exploring the feedback from the comments, like manual aim, continuous fire and what a maxed out setup can achieve. I've seen APCS elevate those things from meh to decent before.
