Strawbs were very popular in Canada. Later on in their career when they had a comeback they made two albums they only released in Canada. Dave Cousins wrote a song in appreciation for the country.

I always like it when someone discovers The Groundhogs' music, and especially on vinyl. You were fortunate to find a British pressing and in great condition (55 years after it was released!) and it's obvious you're going to cherish your copy, but I think it's only right for you to know exactly which issue you have. The UK Liberty black label issue is not the first issue. The first issue used a two-tone blue label. This label was used in 1967, 1968, 1969 and into 1970, when Liberty switched over to the black label.

That Roadrunner album is new to me. Very interesting. I love some Gene Clark. That Strawbs/Sandy Denny collaboration is a good one. The Strawbs were a fine band. Those mid-70s proggy ones are great, very accessible too. Their early folk ones are definitely 'of their time', and often overlooked in favour of Hero and Heroine, Ghosts, and Bursting at the Seams, but they're also excellent. I saw them live a couple of times in the 70s.

Hey Mister Atkinson, it took me quite a time to get ahold of each Gene Clark record I've got in my collection, ''No Other'' is often regarded as Gene Clark's best album, which by the way has recently been re-released. I really like your analysis on The Strawbs' career progression. Dragonfly is a very good and underrated record and it should get more attention on the VC. As it happens I was recently watching the series of ''Folk Britannia'' reports on YT that had originally been broadcast on BBC Four and which got me into some great folk acts such as e.g., Fotheringay that are next on my list 🙂

Que de découvertes ! Dans tout le tas je ne connais que Morse Corde, Strawbs et Groundhogs. Et je n'ai aucun de ces albums (j'ai juste 3 très bons Groundhogs, originaux). Merci encore pour ce nouveau matériel à explorer.

Merci à toi de ton passage, les Strawbs ont connu un gros succès ici au Canada, de ce fait on trouve leurs albums assez facilement (en pressage canadien comme en import UK), et les prix sont vraiment corrects. La sélection de mois est assez éclectique je dois bien avouer, à bientôt

Gene Clark's LPs are all killer. My personal fave would have to be No Other which is a baroque country masterpiece with gothic undertones. Nice Sandy Denny grabs. I think I did mention Fotheringay. The Banks of the Nile would blow your mind to smithereens if you haven't yet heard it. Just prime Sandy. Amazing. Nice scores!

Agreed! No Other is a great one indeed, I saw it has recently been re-released, though I'm on the lookout for an OG copy. Thanks for the Fotheringay tip, a band that I know little about. Babatunde Olatunji on le retrouve aux Congas sur un album indispensable, le We Insist! de Max Roach ! Son nom est même cité par Bob Dylan dans la chanson "I shall be free" sur l'album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" ! Bref, il me fait de l'œil cet album !

Very diverse little pile here. Roadmaster I still have yet to here but am a big fan of his first 3 records. Groundhogs are excellent, Blues Obituary is the first of that great run including Thank Christ for the Bomb, Who Will Save The World and Split.

The Ultime Spinach record I got is '2003 Akarma reissue. My former record store (the one based in France I recently made a video about) had a few of those copies on a regular basis.
