And yet another lunchtime treat for me! I must be living right! I concur with Kate Winslet for pope! She's awesome. I must admit that if I were close by I'd be first in line and last to leave the official tour, I'd never want to leave😊. Thank you for the shout-out to Hemingway, a true writer with depth. I really loved this one, she's amazing and I appreciate the introduction to her on this channel, I can envision her reporting live doomsday reports from the scene and making us all laugh. Thank you as always for the video and thoughtful commentary, you do this KZbin thing right

As far as I understand, and I'm happy to be corrected- Drake was playing Bowls which probably comes from Boules. I think in Bowls they roll the ball and in Petanque they can throw, but they seem to be variants on the same game and have similar rules.

I like Prof Ashley Jackson's sarcastic brief analysis of Raleigh's first encounter with a potato. 😀👍 Maybe he was trying a tactic he'd developed for handling Cunk? He put forward his view of Raleigh, dealt with Cunk's, and got broadcast! Surely a TRI-umph! I assume you know about the Raleigh Bicycle Company (Wikipedia: _"... founded by Woodhead and Angois in 1885. Using Raleigh as their brand name, it is one of the oldest bicycle companies in the world'.")_ I'm fond of Akira Kurosawa's films. I prefer "Seven Samurai" to "Ran". I haven't seen "Ran" in years, but my recollection is it was visually striking, and a clever adaptation. I live near Stratford upon Avon, and sometimes went to see a Shakespeare play every few years, though I haven't been in a while. I am very fond of Kenneth Branagh's "Henry V" film/movie (and No, not just to annoy French people). Branagh's "Henry V" is *_much_* better than "Henry V (The Hollow Crown)". I was on a domestic flight in the USA (early 2000s). I got talking to the guy sitting next to me. He was an ex-US-Marine, and his son was in the US-Marines. He told me the US Marines show Kenneth Branagh's "Henry V" to officer trainee's as an example of leadership and motivating troops. Shakespeare was a very clever guy, who really seems to have understood his audience and patrons. I don't know if this is of interest: _Is English just badly pronounced French?_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioavY2yvZdt9brM (18m:8s) you probably know the Georges Clemenceau quote and the book by Bernard Cerquiglini. If you're not familiar with either, then it might be interesting. I am not a great scholar of the English language (and much less so French), but I am quite smart and articulate. I found some of that video interesting and illuminating. It isn't funny, but it is intellectually pleasing to a curious English speaker. Best Wishes, Cousin. ☮

I think Popes tend to be older than Kate Winslet; she's not even 50yo. Maybe Dame Judi Dench? She played Elizabeth I, so she has played the head of a church. She played 'M' in James Bond films/movies. So she has played a person who knows how to keep secrets and dissemble; and lead and direct people who excel in doing the same; essential Pope qualifications. 🤔 Best Wishes. ☮

Judi Dench is a very wise choice, as she has a wealth of leadership experience having managed James Bond for almost 20 years, indeed

These are two films I really want to see, especially the Seven Samurai. And I'm fond of Kenneth Brannagh. I watched the video you sent me this morning before I even saw your comment... The magic of KZbin! For Clémenceau, I've long wanted to make a little video about the fiercest French punchliners in history. Clémenceau belonged to that small club of people who could kill you with a few words. Among my favourites: "A departmental staircase is a place where people arriving late meet people leaving early. " Cheers :)

@@ToonStory-fh4gnI looked at some of Georges Clémenceau's quotes. Based on a quick skim of the results of a web search for _"Georges Clemenceau aforisms",_ there are some fabulous ones. I enjoy this one, with wit and cynicism, _"Politicians are people who, when they see light at the end of the tunnel, go out and buy some more tunnel."_ I think he's probably more than a little video. Best Wishes. ☮

@@ToonStory-fh4gn Another great Georges Clémenceau quote: _"America is the only nation in history which miraculously has gone directly from barbarism to degeneration without the usual interval of civilization."_ I'm becoming a fan! 🤔 Thanks for introducing him. 👏 Winston Churchill is credited with many quotes he didn't actually say. Is that the case for Clémenceau, or is the evidence robust? Best Wishes. ☮

Ironically, King Charles III is descended from King Henry VIII's older sister. All his legitimate children died childless. So the English throne went to King James VI of Scotland, who was descended from Henry's sister Margaret, who had married his ancestor.

We honestly underestimate the major advantages for the survival of average people that potatoes & corn cultivation had in the world. Irish people lived off of potatoes & buttermilk for a couple centuries. The potato blight caused "The Great Hunger," also known as "The Great Famine," in the 19th century, that killed millions. To this day, the population of Ireland has never recovered, which is profound in our more modern times.

Thank you, yes when you deprive people from the ressource they live on it's "bad". I watched a lot of documentaries on "The Great Hunger" and it was depressing. I can only imagine how much this impacted the country and its identity.

While Cunk is OK for god sake Charlie WE WANT YOU BACK the demise of Weekly Wipe can be directly correlated to the demise of humanity as a whole. I go back to mid 90's PC Zone magazine with Mr Brooker (not personally). Come on it just farting about on a sofa really. I think Charlie is both the cause and the solution to the dystopia we now live in.

In the very first episode that Professor Jackson was in I’m not convinced he really knew the score, because you could see him getting redder and redder in the face while trying to maintain his dignity as Philomena asked her increasingly juvenile questions. It was superb, but I particularly like that he subsequently decided to come back and join in the fun.
