THAT'S a lot of sound coming out of a small package

Yes! Of course, it is only single strung, so there is much less pressure on the soundboard than there would be in double or triple strung instrument. It is therefore, relatively, quite a resonant beast!

Nicely made instrument. I built one some years ago but had great difficulty with the plectra as they are so short and stiff. Never did play well.

What temperament is this tuned in? Quarter-comma meantone? (at least sounds like it)
@TheMadisonHang6 жыл бұрын
where did you learn to make that
@clementmatchett6 жыл бұрын
I didn't make it - Colin Booth did, and he has been making harpsichords for more than 30 years! You can visit his website if you are interested to learn more. Best wishes,

I’d love to own one of these. Where can I browse them online?
@petermole38723 жыл бұрын
I don't think you can, James. Colin has retired from harpsichord building now. But I do know that Peter Barnes has Colin's plans. He has a website and you might persuade him to make you one. Best wishes,

I'd like to hear one dropped maybe an octave, to be a little easier on my old ears.

Bravissimo?? Quanto costa questa spinetta?? La voglio!!

I don't know, Max. But Colin Booth, who is play5iing and who made the instrument has retired from making harpsichords, after many years. He has his own channel now, so you should ask him

I think the air texture would be different at the time of the original instrument so maybe it sounded a lot different.

I suspect you are right, but I don't know for sure..but I have asked Colin. He is on holiday this week, but he will reply when he is back. Thank you for your informed critique..interesting. PS I have one of Colin's instruments which is undamped at least in the treble end of the 8'

Yes, you are right - only the bottom octave is damped
@fnersch33672 жыл бұрын
@@clementmatchett On mine, none of the strings are damped.
