I haven't played this game yet but I have played a lot of deckbuilding roguelikes. I know some common roguelike archetypes for enemies you might want to incorporate. Gorgon/Medusa: Maybe has an effect that makes stone cubes appear on your board, preventing you from clearing lines. Lasts either for a few turns or until you clear a line with the stone cube, removing the stone cube but providing no effect otherwise. Elementals (fire/ice/lightning): Make certain squares on your board hazardous, causing damage + a bonus debuff if you place a cube on that square. Fire elementals maybe make your cubes explode if you place them in their hazardous square, interrupting your line clearing. Lightning does damage so long as your cube remains in your hazardous square. Ice could reduce the damage and armor you build from clearing a line made with a cube occupying an ice hazard square. A jester/Joker/Clown: switches up the squares on your board with each other, "juggling" them.

a cool addition could be a "null cube" or something similar, a one block cube that basically erases one placed block, so it makes it easier to fix a row

this looks really cool. How about instead you get rotates as some sort of resource per turn or per battle? Like 1 rotate per turn? 3 rotates per battle? Whatever the #'s work out I think that would be a really good change.

I feel like some sort of rotation option is gonna be necessary for full version. Especially against some fights where it heavily limits available squares. Super easy to get brick hands through no fault of your own.

In addition to stating that armor persists, I feel they should add a "+", a number or both on to cubes that have been upgrade to know on first glance which blocks in any given shape give the most dmg/armor to prioritize clearing those.

I figured out the armour of thorns. If it's held in your hand it gains a strength when you take damage, but you don't get the strength until you place it. Which is why you did get strength the one time but not all the times you took damage while they were on the board. So it seems to 'hold' the strength and then pays off when you play it

I think there was just an error in the description of armor of thorns and that it was supposed to be 'Whenever damage is dealt to self, gain [x] armor' and that would make more sense with how the upgrade made it give you 6 armor. Either way, it didn't seem to be working

Just finished the demo myself a little bit ago & absolutely enjoyed it! The mechanics are terrifically thought out & I particularly enjoyed the boss encounters. Pretty much my only critique is that fictionally/asthetically if feels a bit disjointed & incoherent with the slimes & skeleton knights next to some more striking warped humanoid creatures that have this slightly darker vibe & your character's sort of technomage style. The art is great but it's the type of game that I personally feel could benefit from leaning into the fiction to expand on how the world & enemies & your character fit together in the way Slay The Spire succeeds at. It might just be a demo thing & presentation will be refined later. Also speaking of Slay The Spire, I'm wondering if the dev is going to follow the lead of games like it & One Step From Eden by adding a roster of different characters to vary playstyles even more.

this seems like a cool concept that needs a lot of work done, from bug fixes to better translations to some gameplay shifts, this could be a very fun game

Games look really fun! Hope we can get a playthrough of the game! Question: do you have a channel dedicated to the squad? I really like the pvp city builder dice game and wish i could see more of it! Since i have no friend i'll simply stand to watch you play the game lol.

Lack of rotation in a game like this leads to immense player dissatisfaction rather than jusr difficulty, imo. Would benefit massively from like 1 rotate a turn.

At 20:45 now so you might figure it out later but the targeting seems like it works as intended, the attack originating from its block, going to the targeted unit. The thing you misinterpreted is that it hits the first enemy on its path, so when you make a line on the top attacking the back enemy, the top enemy in front of it got hit first. When you make a line on the bottom while targeting the top the back enemy is out of the way.

Honestly, I thought it was just the glass knife cube randomly dealing damage, as the fire cubes say the selected enemy while the knife does not.

It's oddly antisymmetric that the attacks do 6 damage per square, but the blocks only block 1.

Definitely felt that as well. You are _definitely_ taking damage in this game, but it seems designed around it? I am not sure yet on balance here.

@@Retromation From the looks of it the armor persists between rounds (40:41) which could be why they're so low. Still seems too low consider the amount of dmg the enemies do but I can see how they maybe have chosen to balance by giving atk builds plenty of campfire heals while defense builds can upgrade and turn more turtle in those campfires (or upgrade long term dmg blocks).

I'd give up persistent armor in a heartbeat for better numbers. Persistent armor rarely works well for balance unless it is something you have to _build into._

@@Retromation I agree. Being able to have the early option to mitigate dmg received or go aggro is better than knowing we'll end up getting hit for a looot each round.

love the idea but I don't like the execution. the design decisions for combat do not seem to favor fun. i feel the are many things that could improve the experience: if the player were allowed to rotate blocks, have more wieldy ones (mostly tetrominoes), have the individual squares pack more power, allow the player to end turn and then activate the blocks for a wombo combo, etc. as it is now everything feels weak, and that's not what you'd want from a game like this.
