If you add weight to a rectangular barge then every ton of extra weight will immerse the barge as much as the previous ton of weight. A linear relationship between draft and TPI. With a vessel that doesn't have a rectangular hull; that tapering is going to make it so every metric ton you load will yeild diminishing returns. A curved relationship between draft and TPI.

Yes. Summer draft+FWA is Fresh water mark. Tropical mark + FWA is TF mark.
