I didn’t see you piece it together, so just so you know: the robot adoption act is to allow robots to adopt human orphans. So Brando had 5 human kids.

Yeah i gathered this as well, he's a robot that was allowed to adopt human orphan kids. One strange thing i noticed though, apparently the character Brando is meant to be Turkish living in Istanbul, his wife's name 'Mine' is definitely a traditional Turkish name (pronounced as Min-ne) however Brando is not a Turkish name at all lmao. I guess the producers never researched the names properly lol

@@tolgahk84 Well, I'm fairly certain Mine is original to the Pluto manga, while Brando dates back to the original Astro Boy / Iron-Armed Atom manga; authors were less careful about this kind of thing in the sixties than in the noughties, I suppose.

@@tolgahk84 The high-end robots don't really usually have normal names, they basically have production/marketing names. Atom is not a Japanese name. North no. 2 is not a Scottish name. Mont Blanc and Gesicht are French and German respectivly, but they are not names, they are the name of a mountain and the German word for "face" respectivly. Herakles (Hercules in the English translation) is clearly named after the ancient Greek hero. And so on.

Yeah "Astro Boy" is the western localized name, in Japan he's just called Atom

Which I think Tezuka was ok with. There once was an ad supporting nuclear fission featuring the Atomu himself. Tezuka allegedly lost his shit and said that Atom stood against nuclear war, not with it. His name is in reference to his physical strength not his atomic powers (which he doesn’t have) So Astro Boy is probably ok especially since this name is based on the fact he flies through the stars.

The view count on these videos, the viewership of Pluto, and the amount of youtubers who react to Pluto is criminally low. I do not understand.. If this was a show that aired on TV I bet you it would be popular.

100% There is not nearly enough marketing or established fan base for this series. Also, fans of the manga seem to just point out the cut content so many of them might not be fans of the anime.

It doesn't really hurt the story Most fans are enjoying the adaptation. It just needs time to pick up steam because the Urasawa manga fanbase is smaller compared to shounen fanbases

astro boy is atom's localised name. Original name of the astro boy anime is Tetsuwan Atom. Hope that clears some confusion

We must make more promotion about Pluto. By the way, there was a movie about Atom/ Astro Boy in 2009 (who didn’t score very well). And Nicolas Cages dubbed doctor Tenma.

Tenma is a man who went insane, recreated his son with the ability to faceplant a mountain and have the mountain be the objective looser, sold said son to a circus, then updated him later while laughing manically. Nicolas Cage should have been given so much to work with! His scream singing the alphabet had mad Tenma vibes.

Man... This is such a fantastic adaptation of one of my all-time favorite Manga's. The last few episodes are so good! Your in for a real treat with the upcoming episodes. Also... Can we appreciate what a great year it has been for anime as a whole as well?? Vinland Saga S2 which was a masterpiece! JJK S2 has been fantastic so far. Link Click S2 was fantastic! Heavenly Delusion a great new original series. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is a contender for anime of the year. And now... Pluto which is another Masterpiece of an anime from the great Naoki Urasawa... Oh! And we also have the AoT series finale in November as well... This year has been stacked!

In Japan Astro is called Atom, though in the dub they still call him Atom for some reason.

Because they’re staying consistent with the sub. This is the first property of any kind with a dub that refers to him as Atom and not Astro.

@@KegOfMeat Its quite the lazy way to get "consistancy". When we talk about subbing or dubbing, what should always come first is being able to convey the intended emotion of the original words. For example you can take Pokemon name's that are more or less just puns and a fun play with words and their meaning. Can you imagine having the english name of pokemon thrown out in the trash and only lazily keeping the japanese name in order to stay authentic? What should be preserve is not the original japanese word, but what they should represent. Except a few international fan of manga and its history, not a lot of the global audience know that Astro is Atom, and in consequence, a lot of the meaning of the scene is lost to them. It was a huge mistake of the dub team. The english one at least, we're quite lucky in France, we know that to give hommage is not limited to just regurgitate japanese word in our translation without any tought process. So we had Astro, wich hold a lot more weight and symbolism in the mind of the majority of the audience. Its not the form that is important, but what it represent.

I also think they should have called him Astro. It’s obviously not a direct translation of Atomu but way more people in the English speaking world know him as Astro. I am ok with it though

Great reaction, I hope you’ll post all your reactions on KZbin so “we” can go through this mystery/journey together. Too broke for Patreon, sorry. :/ I agree with the person who posted about the viewership of Pluto. And it’s a shame manga fans often want 1:1 adaptations. Not everyone, but quite a few. There’s a lot to admire about the process of trimming down, focusing, distilling the essence of the source material to work better in a different medium (like, say, The Shawshank Redemption :) But I guess people are used to seeing _everything_ as far as manga -> anime goes.

Robots do not poop. The food is stored in a storage space inside them that the empty by opening their torso and tossing out the food. You could feasibly eat that food as it has just been pulverized (not metastasized) but it’s all mixed together and has been sitting at room temperature for possibly hours so you probably shouldn’t.

Atom is the REAL NAME of Astro Boy, American localization back many decades ago change the name to Astro boy.... But the real name of the show ASTRO BOY is actually ATOM.

Urasawa anime should be watched in English if possible because they do get the accents in and the VAs are pretty great. I love the fact that he sets his stories in our world, and doesn't restrict them to Japan as the only/main setting. He brings in all kinds of nationalities and areas, and it really just adds so much to be able to hear the characters speaking in accent. It builds the world.

Since I knew it was Urasawa, I watched in English from the get go. Man sets his stories all over the world, not just Japan, so his characters speak in dialect and accent.
