I use alot of ginger. I slice ginger and lemons and infuse and ferment them in honey and then use for my tea.

This is fantastic!!! Thanks for sharing! I’d love it if you’d show how to make the ginger lemon honey cough syrup and the ginger chews and a gingerbread house would be fun to watch as well! Congratulations on your harvest! Fantastic amount of ginger!🥰❤️🇨🇦🍁🙏🏻

It seems like there are endless things to try with ginger. I started a batch of ginger,lemon honey and if it turns out ok, I'll definitely be showing how I did it. The gingerbread house is going to be a challenge, but it will be worth trying. Thanks for watching!

@@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 I loved this too!! We grew ginger for the first time this year. Our ginger lemon honey ferment just completed its 4 week ferment and we tried a spoonful of the infused honey and slice of lemon in tea this morning. Excellent!!! It is SO pretty as well as delicious!! Our fire cider is nearing 4 weeks fermenting so we'll be straining and bottling that soon. We still have ginger left so would love the cough syrup and ginger chews videos and recipes if you could make them!! Merry Christmas to you and Don! You are a blessing, we love your videos! I'd still love if you create an amazon storefront with links to the things you use. I loved your stickers on the adorable jars in this video and wishing they were both there for easy finding!

The candied ginger is delicious and is used in making peach-ginger butter (recipe in Ball canning book). I use it on toast, like apple or pear butter. But, I also love it as a glaze on pork loin roast.. YUMMY!

I tried to make candied ginger, it was recommended to parboil it 4x if the ginger was too strong. My sister in law loved the ginger syrup in her tea and her ginger shots. Funny, I made gingerbread houses for the very first time this week. We were going to have a decorating competition at Thanksgiving. It was so fun, but they were more gingerbread shacks! They came out so rickety it was a gingerbread ghetto! We all had fun. Just had to thin that royal icing down so that inexperienced hands could work with it. Today I found that Aldis sells kits with 4 little houses for less than $10.😮 Oh well, we did have fun. Lots of candy was eaten too. Old and young all loved it. Your family would have fun too.
@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764Ай бұрын
That sounds like a wonderful time. Maybe I should have a few of those kits around as a 'back-up'. I'm sure the kids will have fun no matter what the houses look like. I'm also certain there will be as much candy eaten as gets put on the the houses.

@@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 absolutely! The oldsters went down memory lane trying candy from the past, while the youngsters were challenging each other with the super sour stuff! It got everyone off the couch after dinner, and I had a lot of help cleaning off the dishes so we could use the table. Win, win!

Another enjoyable video. My family loves ginger. My Mum made Ginger Beer when I was little it was a ferment and stored in glass bottles ( there wasn't plastic bottles back then) and the bottles were corked and stored in the garage I will never forget the night I heard lots of little explosions and glass breaking coming from the garage Mum forgot to let the beer breath for a couple of days before she sealed the bottles 😂 only happened the once. It is a delicious drink especially on hot day. Happy Thanksgiving to you both

Hmmm....that might be something else I should try. I've done other ferments and I know how much that pressure can build up. It sounds like it might be worth trying.

I always wondered how to make candied ginger. Thanks for sharing. Could you tell me how much ginger did you plant and how much did you harvest please? Thank you!
@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764Ай бұрын
Thanks! I was surprised by how easy it was. I'll definitely be making more candied ginger. I don't remember exactly how much I planted. I probably had 4 roots in each bag, but I think I'll do less roots in each bag to see if I get bigger roots next year.

@ we’ve never heard either but it’s really good, I just make a simple chicken soup with chicken broth carrots onions celery and chicken thighs salt pepper in slow cooker I add about 1/4 cup of chopped ginger let it cook for 6 hrs and it’s perfect, hope you like it 😊

So interesting that you make candy from the syrup. Could you share how you make it?
@chairajones6365Ай бұрын
@@Longfamily3 I do not double or triple boil the peels, If you do then the pectin gets taken out that you need. Do your normal sugar and water with your peels and ginger at the same time you can do either or both. Take out your peels and ginger, when they get to that near done state.. Keep the surup mixture boiling stir in the fresh squeezed juice that the peels came from boil until the bubbles slow that is when your water has gone, usually when it gets to half. Then pour into the silicone molds. if you want harder candy can add some corn starch/water while cooking no more that 1/4 cup while cooking. Let them set before going into the dehydrator until the stiffness you like. You can make drops by putting the mixture into corn starch and gentle press in the shape then let set in a safe space until harden. Hope this makes sense, the candied peels are more intense in goodness too.

@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764Ай бұрын
I just bought organic ginger from the grocery store. I broke it into pieces and almost all of them grew into beautiful ginger plants. There are a lot of great youtube videos out there about growing ginger. I think I will continue to grow it in containers and might try to bring it in next year when it gets cold to see if I can get slightly bigger roots.
@GeorginaMcWhinneyАй бұрын
Did you buy a ginger plant or just plant supermarket ginger?? Also when will we get an update on the butterflies?
@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764Ай бұрын
I just planted organic ginger from the supermarket. After this, I'll probably try to plant some from this harvest. As for the butterflies, the summer got away from us and we didn't have time to video the entire process. That is on the agenda for next summer. I wound up releasing over 80 Monarchs this past summer and hopefully it will be even more next year. I keep spreading milkweed seeds throughout all of our natural areas on the farm.
