American houses are built with light door frames and short screws. You can replace the door frame screws with long screws that will make it much harder to kick the door in.
@algallego
@algallego 19 күн бұрын
Harder? Yes. Impossible? No. Thin diameter screws are easily broken just the same-- maybe not with just a simple kick-in approach, but with other tools is still a possibility. Anyone determined enough to get through a doorway is not going to be held back by a few screws-- now the average mediocre thief, however, would likely give up the endeavor after soreness sets into his foot.

@rogerwilco2 most other countries? Maybe German but that's about it. The majority of construction outside of the u.s. statistically is not as strong or built to set safety standards. Just the unregulated building in India and China alone put us far above the majority. And our standards are different the farther north you get becase of freezing temperatures. So not really close to the "flimsiest materials possible" you falsely claim. My house was built in the 40s and it's solid old growth timber framing. Learn some more about construction.

Have y'all ever seen the movie, R.E.D.? In it, Bruce Willis is breaking into a high security government area and when he reaches the final door that has a keypad lock, he simply punches through the drywall and opens the door from the other side. LOL And the best part is when he gets to where he wants to be--a document archive where there's a guy whose most helpful in tracking down the file he wants. Willis' sidekick asks the guy, "You're not gonna ask us for ID?" to which the dude responds, "Why? If you made it this far, you made past all sorts of security and if you somehow managed to illegally do that, I certainly won't be able to stop you." LMAO That was an extremely smart government worker.

As someone who used to do legal break ins for a living, a lot of these are easy to bypass... The door may be secured, but the molding, frames, and material surrounding your door are weak af. They show the "burglar" trying to "break in, but they don't show the weak points. I'd love to see the screens tested with a tanto tip blade stab, a shotgun to the door handle/hinges, or when the guys are using the hammer to hit, turn it around and use the claws, lol. A majority are useless and a waste of money. They only provide you with a sense of security. If someone wants in, they're going to get in. Whether it be the door, garage, window downstairs, upstairs windows(most people don't lock those ones or they don't come with a lock and are easy to shatter and crawl through), or even a basement or attic access. If you want to be 100% safe, better shell out the cash for EVERY entrance. Also, almost every electronic lock made, can be hacked, and almost every mechanical lock can be picked(check out the Lockpicking Lawyer, btw. Great guy with great skills)

Electronic garage door hacking is impossible to protect against without making the openers and remotes much more complex. What the hackers do is roll around with various remotes all coded differently and keep pressing them until they find a door that's programmed to the same code. There is a very limited number of codes that the automatic openers use and with how many are out there it's highly likely that they'll find one with the same code.

That's why I use a custom garage remote. I disable the radio for the remote on my garage door opener and connect its wired button connector to a Raspberry Pi. The Pi has a custom app that allows encrypted connections over WiFi. Our phones have a custom garage remote app. I thought about also creating a custom RF transmitter/receiver, but that's more tricky, and the governmental regulation is too much of a pain to make it worth doing.

They now prefer fire/flood 'safe' thicker gauge 'marine' outdoor 316 grade stainless steel on the security screen mesh. Screwdriver / box cutters won't phase it. Bullets, IDK. You could more easily warp the frame, so you need a lot of layers if someone's keen and has access to power tools. It does flex, but it's also significantly heavier. and pricier. It has Molybdenum alloy to prevent rusting in prolonged salt water exposure. There's also 445M2 grade, but it's not as easily welded into the mesh in bulk sheets. In areas with high fire risk, the heavier grade steel won't burn/melt before the aluminium frame does (sic).

@SesshouFan22 25 күн бұрын
Because those take longer. Walls usually make a lot of noise if you try to get through them, and window locks usually have no external access which means you have to break them to get into them, which also makes a lot of noise.

I love how so many of these products show in their own examples the person attempting to gain entry just destroys the door and the device doesn’t do crap to stop them just maybe slow them down a little…!!!

Sometimes all you need is to slow down the intruder and make it more difficult. Most thieves and home invaders are cowards AND lazy, if they have to work hard at getting in or have to make a lot of NOISE, they're going to your next door neighbor instead.

Well….you can destroy anything with the right tools or enough force. The idea of these products is to make it difficult, slow and noisy to get in…not that it’s impossible to get in. It would be annoying to have a house that is an underground concrete bunker with a 2 foot concrete blast door. And less than that …people can get in if they try hard.

Surely you know the old joke about "I don't have to outrun the bear, I only have to outrun YOU." Same idea here. You only have to make it take longer and at more risk than a burglar is willing to accept.

Have to point out the Garage Shield clip shows the guy's hand literally bumping against the handle he could grab and pull to completely bypass the shield. So if the rope pull for the release is too close to the door, the shield will not help much.

I wonder if they'd be more effective if the lower half was filled with water rather than air. It would better stand up to the impact of water, at least, because it would have so much inertia of its own. I guess this design expects it will have a closed door behind it to help it stay in place.

Most locks are worthless!!! I live in the country and was getting robbed all the time; they were very tech savvy, and the internet assists thieves in thwarting most deterrents. Law enforcement is ten miles away!!! We are not legally allowed to set traps!!! I am afraid to leave my house!!! They were even using my own security cameras to spy on me by hacking my wifi; I now only use cables! Being single, if I leave they know no one is there.

Right, unless you live in a fortified bunker.. I live on a town house, good luck getting on my roof & cutting your way in from the top... lol... and ya no dry wall that's accessible. My 2nd floor glass door would be easiest breaching point. But at that point I'm down stairs pointing something at them or firing..

Cuts into a 40cm thick brick wall, dulls his razor. Goes to the roof pulls up the tiles hops into a 30cm thick glass wool insulation, scratching himself to the attic door realizes that its made of 3mm thick steel sheet with on a reinforced steel frame and locked by a bolt secured with padlock from the inside and the hinges are inside too. And this is not even a fortified bunker its just a the cheapest house from the sixties.

That intruder stopper tripwire device is just a lawsuit waiting to happen. It's illegal to booby trap to protect your property. Anything that can be accidentally triggered to target a civilian, no matter how absurd it is that one would find their way to the trap, is illegal. Now, a tripwire that YOU pulled to start a trap that targets somebody is much more easily argued in your defense, because you are operating the "trap" and can verify that it is targeting the correct thing and isn't getting set off on a bystander.

As someone from Ireland, i find it extremely disconcerting and distressing to see that so many of these innovations seem to "naturally" target schooling complexes and without any real alarm but a given norm - what does that say about the society within which you live, whereby you need to plan for such events and not look at the cause of them? Have to say, i'm happy here in Ireland in knowing the fact that gun laws here are really really tight and 99% of this stuff is irrelevant - sad state of affairs if you ask me 😞

It all looks like neat and a way to harden an exit/entry. It appears that none of them address the simplest way to bypass every device shown, with the possible exception of the flow block. It's a bottle with gas and a rag stuck in it (there are enhancements, but this is YT). That's assuming you have some shady organization or person that is themselves indifferent to the continued well being of the occupants. Fire doesn't care how long your screws are. I guess the security theater of these devices make the installer feel safer; but the comments remind me of the XKCD. Impossible to break through high levels of crypto, but you never have to do that. If they need a code or want one, they can just keep hitting people with a wrench until they get the answer or run out of people to wrench. Still neat gadgets, though. Would be interesting to see how well the Lockpickinglawyer would do against anything with a keyed lock. Happy Veteran's Day. Or, hopefully, a quiet and reflective day thinking of the veterans that made it possible for you to have a garden party.
