One of best fretboard note method on KZbin because it 1. Has a logical system 2. Can be applied to all strings 3. Reinforces names of all strings 4. And is challenging by testing understanding by use of a clever video

Oh my god! I've been learning for about a year or so and am VERY much aware of my limitations (no musical knowledge or experience beforehand) but this is the second vid of yours I've seen and it is a GAMECHANGER!!!! I've recently been wondering how I am going to commit all these things to memory and you have produced this AMAZING video! Well, I like it so much, I've just sent you a Fiver for a brew of your choice as my way of saying thanks. Although I'm sure if I paid a Guitar Teacher to teach me this, it would cost me a lot more than a the price of a beer or coffee so I am super grateful to you. I've subbed now and I'm off to see what other little gems you've got in your library...

This was an incredible video, but one big improvement would be to have the on screen answers disappear a lot sooner or having the video longer with a section without them. For me I found myself having to awkwardly look away and imagine the fretboard for most of the exercises and when the notes do disappear there isn't much longer left to really practice it.

Thank you very much to be 1) so pedagogical 2) put so much effort in the visuals and animation 3) not having fillers. A video from your about where to start in the guitar journey, what to train in which order would be pretty awsome ! Thank you sir.

Just discovered (and subscribed to) your vlog site today. This video with its colored demonstrations really hit home in a way I had not seen up until now. The fret board became understandable and memorable in a way no one previously had done. Additionally, being able to test yourself and go back to see your mistakes is an unparalleled function. Thanks. I don't doubt Harrison, Lennon and McCartney did something similar to this when they were first starting out. I feel robbed knowing that you weren't available until I was much older. Well done. Brillant.

This is just what I needed. I started practicing the guitar about 4 weeks ago and I'm proud to say I made it all the way through level 5 with only 4 mistakes. I prefer not seeing the labeled fretboard though, as it might make me dependent on the labels while the guitar doesn't have any. Also, to level up further, which I plan to do when I can finish all five levels without error, just speed up the video!

While I use the dot markers on 3,5, and 7 frets rather than using the fret marker on the 9th fret I use the 10th fret as they are all natural notes. I also tend to use mnemonics which work for me,but not necessarily others. I also use the 2 along and 2 down method for the 5th and 6th strings, the 3 along and 2 down for the 4th and 3rd string and the open C shape method for the strings 1 and 2. There are also some good apps on the markket to keep a person fresh with little quizzes on note positions on the fretboard.

As a visual aid place green stickers under the whole notes of your fretboard and red stickers under your sharps/flats. Its the same concept as piano keys. The colors aren't important so long as you know which is which. Abd two stickers of the same color side by sidewill show you where EF and BC are. Then this by extension will create a visual pattern that you can develop in your mind's eye.

Please make this into an Android game so I can play it every day. I'm a bass player and I was fine with the E and A strings but was shocked to find how slow I was at finding notes on the D and G strings.

How come every string starts on the same note as the string previous to it ( Going from low to high ) ended on the 17th fret with the exception of the b string ? The 17th fret on the g string is c while the next string after it is B. The entire thing is consistent up until that point.

Because the guitar is tuned in 4ths between each string set with the exception of the G - B strings (tuned in thirds) I explain this in more detail in my introductory video to Intervals which may help you understand why this happens kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3SpqYOLetR1jMU

Very interesting method. Gamification certainly works. As someone who has played for longer yet hasn't learned the fretboard apart the "white keys" from E to E on E and A strings, it's at times difficult not to grab an octave from a lower string when scaling up the strings. Requires a bit of practice to focus on the markers. I think learning the markers will be a useful tool, but also learning all the white key positions and especially not just learning the notes individually but connecting the octaves or structures as youll most likely spend a lot of time forming chords or other intervals that revolve around the key note and the level of note. And who stops you from putting your own spin to this method if you see it make more sense to you another way. For example one thing that came to my mind right away was playing the first markers and then jumping two strings for their octaves, but only up to 9th feet marker and finding the last one from a string above. As they conveniently include many "white keys" and helps you find the other fingerings. Or course there are patterns for all single keys around the fretboard, but that can easily lead to patterning instead of recognizing a specific spot on the fretboard. A lot of food for thought in this one!

While I play this I also say which fret and string the answer will be in. I am also a lefty, so I practice flipping the board in different directions. An idea for anyone who want to further challenge themselves!
