Many thanks. Now, while at SUN, Elvis Presley did two versions of "Trying to get to you". One was recorded in February of 1955, with Elvis playing his 1942 Martin D-18. That version has been lost. But the guitar he used had a life of its own as it eventually auctioned in August 6, 2020, for US$1.321,000, a record to this day, for a NON MODIFIED acoustic gutar. Rewinding to the 1950's, it was five months later, in July of 1955, when Elvis sat on the SUN piano and the result was the master we all know. Sam Phillips is said to have erased portions of the sound of the piano. What is remarkable is the passion with which Elvis sings this song, and the reason is simple: the master was recorded without a rhythm guitar because Elvis SANG it as he PLAYED the piano. The song was the one Paul Mc Cartney heard at boot camp in 1957 and which he credits, without naming it, as "the Elvis song which influenced" him to write his first song ever, "In spite of all the danger". . He was 15 years old. Finally, the R&B lady who co-wrote this song, said once that Elvis' 1955 VOCAL delivery of the song and that of the lead singer of the R&B who recorded it the year before were exactly the same. She wrote 700 songs but she is wrong on that assertion. Presley's vocal delivery includes taking the two warbles one step forward by extending his vocals so that they meet, then seamlessly join (and without any stops, nor breathing space in between), the second and third verses respectively. He repeats this vocal magic in 1968, while delivering the song at the two sit down versions . Listen to the Eagles' warbling.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJe0m3-udsqFkNE

Great lesson .As you know lots of his early stuff was easy chords. Reaching high A is not easy .I play guitar and found the only way I can reach it is by shouting .lol. Great lesson. I was 17 in 58 . Learnt guitar by playing early 50s stuff.Was singing these early hits in a little rock group in 1959. Still jam away to them now on guitar . I have a claim to fame . The young 16 year old guitarist in the group I was in , in 59 .Was a young guy name of Albert Lee.

Thanks John! Sounds like you and my dad are about the same age, he bought his first Stratocaster in 1958 after he graduated high school. That is so awesome that you played with Albert Lee, I love to watch and hear him play. Thanks so much for sharing that. I hope you have a great day.

What about all the lead guitar stuff that Scotty Moore was doing all through the song? That is what I want to know, and I am looking for it on here. Can you post that video up, or tell us where we can find it? Thanks.

Hi I’m a new guitarist and I’ve got a question. Could you please go in a little more depth in the strumming pattern. Because since I’m new at this I can’t really read your hand movements yet. So if you could tell me or make a special video on it that would be very helpful. Sorry I’m late.
@FretmoreGuitarLessons Жыл бұрын
Hey Tim, I’m gonna be doing a strumming video soon. On this song it’s just down up, down up or D U D U all the way through. There are, of course, the picking throughout where there are some stops too. I hope this helps.

Hi guys, many thanks ! I am under the impression that Elvis is playing the song in F, and not in E here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJOmqKCqZtdgl80 Am I wrong?
@FretmoreGuitarLessons Жыл бұрын
Yes he’s playing it in F on that version, but you can play it any key you want to.

Great lesson but please understand that most of use know how to do the chords its the right hand rhythm that needs to be broken down.
