a new discovery for myself. thanks the powers that be and of course youtube and freur letting this piece of music happen. thrillingly dark with the band in pantomime. brilliant. i wish i could share this with someone, but they are gone. this is my song to that long lost friend/love/desire. peace always ..~gcb~...

Yes this is the original lineup. The singer left and so did the drummer. Karl on guitar took over vocals. Band formed in Cardiff, Wales thus they are singing this version in the native tongue.

This was done for a Welsh TV show when they lived in Cardiff. Looks like their mate Stuart Kelling on vocals.

Full Disclosure: won't sound so, following, but - insanely huge Fan. I think the English version of this song is decade-defining, and perhaps even Genre-defining. That said ... I cannot help but watch this and think, 'Good God, but we are an incalculably SILLY species.' Even as a Fan, have to say I'm glad history delivered me the English video Version of what we all just witnessed, first. Forgiven, Freur, I still deeply love you. :)

I've never heard this version. It is equally as pleasant as the other version. Is it me or does this version sound a bit otherworldly (listen at 2:16-2:35). It is like the early Welsh version of Sigur Ros's Hopelandic.

Karl Hyde (Vocalist for Underworld) sang the on the version of this track that got all the airplay. He's on guitar on this early version.
@kajafreur527 Жыл бұрын
They really should've released a version of the Doot-Doot album in Cymraeg (ideally with Hyde of vocals, but I get that he's English), Welsh-language new wave pop songs is something I am more than down for.

You are right about the drummer (Steve Irwin), but Stuart was never the original singer of this, it was always Karl. Stuart ended up back in the band when they toured, as guitarist. He and Chris Bell would swap over in Time

Here's a translation, no great revelations but she implies there was more Freur music later in the same show... "Freur have been in Studio Star 2 before, some of them with Screen Gemz. They're a group of lads furthering music of the future. One thing that's very difficult to do is saying their name, this is how it's spelled - Freur. But without saying more, here's the group and their first song for today, namely Doot Doot."

@m1kewithaone No, they became Underworld, not Underground.

Wow! This is so strange! I've never seen this before! What's the singer's name? I take this is before John joined the band? The Doot Doot album is a favorite of mine, an underappreciated classic of the 80's!
@knightcdr2116 жыл бұрын
I wholly agree, they were very avant-garde. They had a wide array of sounds that would eventually become established genres and sub-genres (shoegaze, new wave, synth, etc). If that is not John on vocals, I too would like to know his name. The blurring of English and Welsh makes one think of Jonsi from Sigur Ros scant singing. Is there a way to get a audio file of this version?
