Freya is a big proponent of singers singing in their natural voice. She explains that so well here, and is so funny and down to earth! What a great teacher!

You know what sucks .. People telling someone they can't sing just because they don't sound like the singer singing the song they are singing with... (Especially when the person isn't even trying to sound like the song singer)

This video made me realize that I am pushing my voice deep too much because I thought it would make me be perceived as more authoritative, but really I simply sounded weak and raspy. I higher tone clearly was necessary to achieve both a confident sounding speaking voice and singing quality.

Hi, I know that Freya probably knows a lot about what she's saying but, I sing many songs much higher than my normal voice and also lower. It still sounds very good, at least in my own opinion and from what others have told me. It doesn't strain or hurt my voice, as long as I do it with a lot of support from my stomach, good posture and a bit of warming-up. I mean doesn't opera singers sing a lot higher than their normal voice also? I really appreciate to hear someones opinion on this.

Hi Freya, I have learned a lot from you lately. I would appreciated if you can make a video of The Lord's Prayer by Albert H. Malotte. I have trouble to sing last two lines, beside I can't read the staff. I hope you can help people like me, try to sing out by the lyrics. Lot thanks and bless

Hi Freya! I love your videos 💖 Can you make one talking about healthy speaking? I get tired, hurted and have the feeling that my voice is weak... I remember my mother telling me, when I was a little girl, that female voices were irritaiting... so I know I might be pushing it down, but I don't know how to fix it. Can you help me?

Hello Freya. I have a couple of younger female students (aged 10 - 14) who have very light soprano voices. The tone is very nice and they sing without any strain or tension, but the voices lack power/projection. My feeling is always that this should not be forced at this age, and it is better to concentrate on support, breathing, singing without strain or tension, etc, and to allow the voice to develop strength and power as the student becomes older. But I did wonder whether you had any ideas for gentle exercises which might aid a little in developing this? Sometimes I ask the student to do a crescendo and diminuendo (messa di voce) at the end of an exercise (taking care that the crescendo never becomes forced or exaggerated), along the lines of what Richard Miller has in some of his exercises, but I would like to add a few others systematically if appropriate. Thank you!

Hey Freya,I want to ask one thing that for singing with feel and emotion so for it first have to train the voice?? It's necessary to train the voice first to sing with feel and emotion?....what do you think.plz answer me.🙏
@janet2a6 жыл бұрын
Rajneesh Pathak I think Freya would say that you use feel and emotion to help train your voice... to help you ' put' it in a good natural place for you... 😊

Just Practice. Play with your voice and experiment. Dont be afraid that you would sound bad just practice and experiment. Dont try to hard just play with your voice. That's the key

But what is an unnatural position ? One needs to develop the muscles so by definition that will be unnatural for the beginner. I appreciate you giving audible examples, but can't shake off the idea that any encouragement to develop the muscles is going to feel, and sound, unnatural at the start.

Prime example of a singer who sounds very different singing than speaking: Ellie Goulding. And I think it's tiring to listen to her, to be honest. I mean, it's her choice, but I find it colourless.
