Friction machining, is ceramic or hardened steel better?

Hi guys, in this video I tested a couple of components for you to use for friction machining!
Apart from the noise generated by the tool, this system can be really useful and advantageous in order of time to create the detail, unfortunately a fairly powerful lathe is required...

Я использую для таких целей левый отогнутый резец. Стачиваю все его острые углы радиусом. Поднимаю выше цента его что бы он не снимал металл с заготовки. Но и так что бы от нагрева пласнина не оторвалась. Одного резца хватает на долго писка проктически нет от трения.

Hardened steel is not very resistant to friction... usually at the factory we carry out heat treatment and quenching processes to harden the steel, but to provide results that are scratch and friction resistant we add a hard chrome coating process by electroplating or by coating the ceramics by flame coating.

Specialized companies can do the treatments you described, but those who do it as a hobby have to make do. with what you find... Yes spark plugs are designed to withstand heat cycles 😊 aslo didn't see him take metal filling of the plug. Iridium or platinum are in middle of plugs for most part.

Those precious metals sit just in small quantity on the spark plug tip, not in the middle of the plug!!! Otherwise $$$

Com o aço o tubo se tornou mais maleável, pois aquecia uniformemente sem tirar tanto material. A cerâmica da vela de ignição não conseguia aquecer uniformemente o tubo e tirou muito material. Esteticamente com a vela ficou melhor! Estruturalmente com o aço ficou melhor!

Для этих целей , я применяю сталь Р18 , даёт хороший результат , не истиррается и не срезает металл с детали ! Успехов !!!

Grazie per il video. Però, forse... essendo una prova comparativa, avresti dovuto eseguire le stesse operazioni con entrambe gli utensili per ottenere un risultato simile e successivamente comparare i risultati e trarre deduzioni. Sbaglio? Anche l'audio... avrei preferito abbassare il volume per aver almeno modo di dedurre dalla frequenza del suono chi fosse a causarlo, il pezzo in lavorazione o l'utensile che vi frizionava contro. O entrambi. Si potevano fare molte deduzioni interessanti. Pazienza... grazie lo stesso.

Не получается,закалка не даст нужного эффекта. у сверел, фрез, резцов и прочего инструмента хвостовик не такой как в режущей части, режущая часть более твердая и хрупкая, в то время как хвостовик более вязкий и податливый на излом

A cut in the lengh would be instructiv for us who don't have your experience. No matter, your videos are well done and show us some fascinatings realisations and practices.

Hi, thank you... My videos are designed to help all users do particular jobs with simple tools! Among other things, I am preparing a video, where I have brought together all the videos in which I used friction processing, so in a single video you have a complete idea of the processes. As for the tube, reducing the diameter increases the thickness. In the tests I did, I was able to work tubes up to 3 mm thick well, or to friction weld solid cylinders!

I should have understood that, as you do not modify the length, the excess material compared to the initial diameter is always present, more or less, if friction and heat consume part of the material ? In the video I made two comparisons, with a hardened steel plug and with a car spark plug. With the car spark plug there is a greater amount of material removal, because the ceramic is much harder! In any case, these are negligible quantities that are almost not considered. However, in the case of the sphere or other examples of friction welding, it is necessary to clean the detail... But it is minimal work, compared to making it from a solid piece, or traditional welding.

Ciao, il cambiameto di colore si chiama metallocromia, avviene quando si espone una superficie metallica ad un forte calore. Nel caso dell'acciaio inox questa esposizione fa reagire il carbonio con il cromo, facendo perdere l'inossidabilità del materiale.

Ciao, come ho spiegato nel video, se avessi messo l'audio su tutta la lavorazione ti garantisco che non sarebbe stato piacevole... Il rumore era davvero assordante durante l'attrito a ferddo dei due metalli! Comunque a parte i video che ho già caricato per le settimane seguenti, in quelli futuri, terrò in considerazione il consiglio!
