Nope. If you look at Frida's hair at her temples, the start of the braids is ON TOP of the head, not in the back to the sides. There is a little clip of film on KZbin that shows how Frida drapes a shawl criss cross BETWEEN the two ponytails ON TOP of her head, even on her forehead, before braiding the shawl INTO the hear. Then she drapes the braids UP and binds the shawl. I tried this and it sits rock solid. No pins needed!!
