They've said before that they're not fans of Blazblue. As for the English dub of RWBY, I happen to quite enjoy it. That's how the characters are supposed to sound, so it's more natural that way.

As a fan of BB, P4A and UNI, my chief concern going into this game was whether or not the game would sacrifice the depth found in those games for the sake of reaching a wider demographic outside of the fighting game community. Now, the moveset per character is certainly more simplistic, and honestly rather odd compared to what those games offered, as light, medium, heavy, persona and drive attacks are now mainly done through repeated tapping of the two buttons (yes, auto combos are here in full force) that were usually reserved for simple light and medium attacks previously while more important actions and attacks are now mapped squarely to what used to be the heavy/persona attack button, presumably for easier conveyance of the moves' importance or somesuch. With no real command normals to speak of, you'll quickly find that you need to engage with the auto combo system to make use of most of your normals whether you'd like to or not. While the rigid nature of the auto combo system limits the comboability of individual characters on their own (this restricts the UNI cast in particular very noticeably compared to their home turf), effective use of the multiple assist types available to you per partner during each match more than picks up the slack in this regard. In summary, once you get the hang of things and stop treating the game like BB, UNI or P4A, it all starts coming together rather nicely. That said, the game overall feels very much derivative of P4A's gameplay model above all else despite its namesake as mechanics like the universal overheads and reversals are directly based on the same concepts from those two games, so migration for Persona players should be a comparatively easier ordeal.

I've been on a SBFP binge for a couple of months and it's fucking incredible how often Matt brings everyone down. I've re-listened to the first 75 episodes of the podcast now and in hindsight it's super clear how his interests clash with everyone around him. Keanu Quintana I didn't know doing 5A-A-A-A>5P>5B-B-B-B>236B+C was more mechanically demanding than literal 1f links. By the way, the former is a half health combo (8k damage) while the latter is just being able to throw out a combo to begin with. Don't even get me started on how mechanically demanding Melee or any of the games these characters even came from originally is compared to BBTAG. Yes, this game *is* overcasualized whether you want to believe or not.

It would've drawn a bad impression on me. I'm so glad I got into it on my own and see how it is in fact better than BlazBlue, which it is. As weird as this game is, wow this was no effort. I'd rather they just have played P4U again because they seem to really dig it and it'd at least have that liveliness in it.This game is weird as hell and I'm not a fan of the control settings, but man does it actually make me want the RWBY characters in a better game. Those designs are neat! Also the comments section being full of "No you can't like RWBY" and "No you're just a hater for not liking RWBY" is pretty bad, can't people just respect opinions from either side?

I try to when I can, and I do. I understand that people don't like RWBY because it has major flaws. More so because I just think people expected it to be some huge blockbuster anime from all the hype, but instead they got a web-series made by an internet company from Texas. I really wish more people did respect opinions on it, but I have to admit it does get on my nerves more from the hater side, probably because of my bias. It just feels like from that side especially there is a lot of condescending attitudes. Although, I just feel like the prick for saying that. Either way, I would definitely like to see RWBY get into other fighting games. The designs of the characters and their weapons can be pretty well utilised I'd say, especially because most of them are guns and when you can use anything as a gun it is pretty rad.
