It is Friday night in Hollywood where the weird people come out and play. I did not want to stay at home so I took my little bike out and went up and down Hollywood Boulevard to see what was going on right when you think you saw it all you see something unexpected there’s always something to see what a crazy night

As a Polish individual who resided in the USA for over 35 years, I experienced a gradual decline in quality of life each year since my arrival. Four years ago, the tipping point was reached, prompting my family's return to Poland. We now reside happily in Warsaw, enjoying its safety and cleanliness. Our daughter, born in California, Orange County refuses to entertain the thought of returning. This decision ranks among the best in my life. It's not solely a California issue; the entire country is crumbling while its elites prioritize excessive spending on endless wars and undocumented immigrants.

I moved to Hollywood at 23 years old in '78 from a shitty town in Pa. Best move I ever made, especially being a musician. I had the time of my life, but now LA is nothing like it was back then. When someone is on whatever drug that was, I'm assuming probably Flakka or whatever, they become what @germaninvenice said, "Superhuman." They become so combative that it's hard for them to control, let alone 1 cop. My husband has type 1 diabetes, and when his sugar drops low, where he shouldn't be walking, let alone alive, he sometimes, becomes "superhuman." When I can't get his sugar under control, and I have to call 911, I have to let them know he is combative. That way they know which EMTs and police officers to send. It's different every time.

i graduated from UC berkeley in june 1984. decided to take a back pack to LA for two weeks. Got a room on Hollywood Blvd, up a block off Vine, now where the metro station is. It had all kind of weird characters. The Blvd would be grid locked with traffic on weekend nights; literally no movement so packed, from a few blocks east of Vine all the way to Highland. Anyway, po po would put up road checks on the Blvd, and would tow an endless loop of cars. One night, one guy got into something with one of the cops, and he flinched at the cop, and several beat him for a couple of minutes, with the clubs. Right in public, a crowd was around and as noted it was gridlock. I remember that..they had no hesitation or worry of being in trouble. I used to get up early in jog around east hollywood, it was pretty warm in June. Within a week I got a job as a guard, easy to get, and worked outside the LA coliseum during the olympics. Then I worked at a game show in July and August and after that was a guard at Sunset Gower studios. Gene Autry had his office, or an office, there, went in after hours one night and it was pretty nice, I always was impressed by his ethic after that. By September I got a job at Unifax insurance, 7866 beverly i believe, and worked there until March 1985. I worked both jobs, guard and insurance for a couple of weeks. By this time I had a studio in Echo Park 1443 N Alvarado. I used to get off from the guard job in hollywood in the evening, and run down hollywood blvd in my guard pants and a tee shirt, holding my shirt, work shoes, etc. in a bag, all the way to Echo Park. Young and with stamina. On other nights I would jog around Echo Park at midnight, cuz in 1984 the air was so bad mid day jogging was impossible. Went to LA City College all my months there, took chinese, math, and computer. I was pretty good in chinese, not so in math and computer. Met my good friend Johnny Cho in the computer class, if johnny is out there, try to find me. Made friends with an older mexican born lady with a good safeway job and two young kids; it did not go as far as I wanted and guess it ended when I moved back to Nor Cal. Used to be magazine stands on several corners in hollywood, i was a reading nut and always liked the political magazines. I put an ad in a spanish paper for a girlfriend and think i went on one date, she spoke no english and me no spanish. I also got contacted through the ad with a mixed girl white, spanish who lived in Inglewood, i had no car so i used to bus there. Pretty crazy, waiting on a corner in Inglewood to get the bus back to H Wood. Funny, all the weird places I went, late night jogs, bus in inglewood, I never really had any fear. guess is you show fear it materializes. All for now...

Sadly, it just keeps getting worse there and everything I left there for has now followed me to OC! The traffic here is just as bad as LA now and getting worse all the time. The homeless problem is worse, businesses are closing and we have way too many people here illegally! That alone plays heavily into inflation. Our state is turning into a 3rd world hell hole. Mike, this video was absolutely A W E S O M E ! ! ! ! I loved going around Hollywood. You brought back so many memories for me. As young guys then, my friend and I would up and down the boulevard EVERY night, for 8 years! They called us " Boulevard Rats". In this video, i saw so many things that haven't changed. I also remembered the way many things were back then. Mike, listen to me. People pay tons of money to see what you're showing us. You and I got to see them and experience them for free. We always saw interesting things when we walked the boulevard every night. In the early 60's you could see tons of famous people. Mid 60's hippies. Late 60's gays. Early 70's drunks. The first openly gay establishment was on Hollywood and Las Palmas. Just down from the Egyptian. It was called The Gold Cup coffee shop. Boy could I tell you stories from old Hollywood of 60 years ago. I've enjoyed all your videos since the beginning. Hope to see more of crazy Hollywood! Thanks again for all your hard work and dedication. AUSGEZEICHNET!!!

Hi Mike! 🌴🌴🌴I hung out there all the time on Hollywood Blvd, but it was never that bad. Had dinner at the Magic Castle, went to the Pantages Theatre, Egyptian Theatre, went to Amoeba Music all the time, ate at the Popeyes numerous times. Can't believe the police are allowing all the tents on Hollywood Blvd, they never allowed that to happen before, and there were never any tents on the sidewalk. The police station is just right up the street.🌴🌴🌴
@kikovazquez7277
@kikovazquez7277 2 ай бұрын
Yes, the tents are a relatively recent phenomenon, but the homeless population is not. When I arrived in L.A. in 1984 I lived a couple of miles from central Hollywood in an extremely beautiful and trouble free neighborhood where I still live today. I worked downtown and spent many nights strolling down Hollywood Blvd. and other parts of Hollywood. The homeless, both in Hollywood and downtown were sprawled along the sidewalks in their own squalor with no shelter or privacy. There was no such thing as crack or fentanyl or meth being a street drug. Cocaine was too expensive for them. The most common addiction among the homeless who fell into substance abuse were the cheap fortified wines. Empty bottles of Richard's Wild Irish Rose everywhere. A few blocks of Hollywood Blvd. would load up during the day with clueless tourists who thought there was something to see, but mostly it was only a bunch of footprints and stars along the sidewalk, crap museums which are still there,, and crap souvenir stores and virtually nothing else - no clubs, a small handful of venerable restaurants like Musso & Frank plus crap pizza and burger stands, not a single decent retail store, and lines of pickup trucks converted into multi-passenger tourist wagons to ferry visitors into the Hills to view the alleged homes if the stars. Every building, including the Roosevelt and Knickerbocker Hotels were in a state of deterioration. At night the place was dark and dead - even on weekends, other than the old movie theaters and the legit theaters such as the Pantages and Fonda that were outside the main boundaries of where most daytime tourists strolled. The reality is that Hollywood has been largely reconstructed since the 1980's and there are many more tourists and locals around than there were before lounging in numerous clubs (that are mostly along the side streets), and restaurants and bar and grills that are comfortable and lively gathering places. The 2 old hotels are restored, the Highland and Hollywood shopping and entertainment complex has become the hub of the activity. Countless brand new high rise mixed use apartment/condo towers have been developed. The communities east of downtown Hollywood that were once thick with gang warfare and violent crime (East Hollywood, Silver Lake, and Echo Park) are now largely gentrified hipster neighborhoods crowded with restaurants, boutiques and art galleries. East Hollywood was a shooting gallery for gangs but they are gone gone gone and replaced by extremely peaceful Thai immigrants who must share the neighborhood with homeless to an extent, and the Blvd. is lined with great Thai restaurants and markets. I am not here to say that the central stretch of Hollywood Blvd. between Vine and LaBrea are in any way attractive or worth visiting for tourists, but the whole look at how Hollywood has crumbled and become infested with the dregs of society is pure ignorance. The reality is that it was more broken and desperate years before I arrived 40 years ago going back into the 70's at least. What we see there now is actually a major improvement from what I initially experienced there when I got planted in this place.

Why cant the Los Angeles authorities or local councils recognize Hollywood as an enormous port for tourism and present itself well to the world, invest money in the upkeep of the environment, even just as a matter of normalcy? Squalor seems to be becoming the "new norm." There are some countries in the world that are so beautifully kept and maintained, they are a visceral pleasure to visit because of their stunning beauty and orderliness. Class in other words, pride, basic human dignity. Am I gonna have to grab my gear and come over there to clean some sh*t?
