Hi Greg, i’m wishing a speedy recovery for your beloved dog. The last three years I lost all of my fur babies. Dogs are family! I accidentally read two Pulitzer Prize books last year, one was the emperor of all maladies the 2011 pic and I really was blown away at the compassion as well as information of the book. Thank you for bringing this year’s books to my attention. Aloha

I’ve heard really good things about Emperor of All Maladies. Thank you for the support!

How sweet is Joel to mail you stuff he buys you on the road. That is next level pure cinnamon bun status. 🥰 Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on The Grapes of Wrath. 🍇

Thank you for the mention! It was a lot of fun to join in with the Pulitzer speculation 🏅 I also recently read The Furrows, and I had heard warnings about the second half. I actually enjoyed the whole thing. I thought the switchover of the narrators was very clever; the way it was unannounced and slowly become clear that we’d moved on was great. I also love that there are so many layers, and I’m still not sure what *actually* happened, who the third narrator was… and even whether it mattered. Really smart but disorienting novel.

I’m not entirely sure I know what happened either. I had no idea the perspective shift was coming so I was a bit blindsided by it.

The hardest part will be keeping the video from being incredibly long. I didn’t realize I had so many thoughts until I started writing the post.

When We’re Sisters was on my list of books to read too, but keep putting it off. Maybe one day.

I put a hold on it at my library but I’m wondering if I should pre-order the paperback for August. 🧐🤔

I'm so excited about your "Grapes of Wrath" Pulitzer deep dive. I would totally do a "Pulitzer book club". It could be fun to read these with a group.

I will finish _City of Night_ this month. I have barely started it (got distracted by other books 🙂) , but I usually enjoy peripatetic stories with lots of encounters....so. Good to know that the author writes a strong ending with a payoff. Thanks Greg. Am enjoying this QueerTBR Tackle.

Thank you! The group makes it lots of fun.

I recently read When We Were Sisters for my Marginalized Authors book club and loved it! Some of the members in our group did have a little trouble with it, but I think that was due more to mood and their own headspace than the book itself. I highly recommend it!

Mood and headspace can definitely have an impact.

Hi recent finder and subscriber of your videos, they are wonderful. I have read the Love Songs Of W.E DuBois and A Room With A view. I really liked A Room With A View and I loved Love Songs Of W.E Dubois. Currently i am reading The Library of Legends by Janie Chang (fiction) and The Firebrand and The First Lady: Portrait of a friendship; Pauli Murrary, Eleanore Roosevelt and The Struggle for Social Justice ( long title lol). I am really enjoying both of them. have a great weekend, hugs for Jamie ❤.

When We Were Sisters is such a good book! I read it on audio and it was amazing. It's also short if that moves it forward. Yeah, I had no idea Grapes of Wrath was from a song. As someone whose been grieving. I think a book about cyclical grieving will be good.

I am really picky about when I can experience catharsis, so I had to wait for The Furrows. If you read it, I hope it helps.

I'm sure it's already been recommended but Juliet Stevenson does an audio of A Room with a View and she's always wonderful to listen to.

I would LOVE that. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that version is available on any of my subscription apps. 😩

I read 2&3 books concurrently. Does anyone else do this? I can’t get into audible as much as I’ve tried. Love Songs still is ma fav read of 2022. Love your ways. Hugs to Jamey

I know some people who read even more books at once, believe it or not. I used to do several at once but I decided to limit myself to one physical book and one audio at a time a few years ago.

Completely agree with your assessment of The Furrows. I was more frustrated with the first half than you were and became skeptical I was supposed to believe any details of the post-tragedy story as true either. Regardless, I flew through it and was hopeful the second half would have me making sense of it, but it takes another wild left turn that really felt like I was left with nothing by the end. My most disappointing read of the year so far :(
@SupposedlyFun Жыл бұрын
I think I was willing to go along with the first half to see where it went, and then I hated the direction it took. I agree that it was disappointing after the hype.

I have not read The Furrows but I don't think it's for me. It sounds frustrating. I am currently reading The Bandit Queens and I love it! It certainly deserves to be on lists, many lists IMHO. Becoming Ted is next on my TBR if I can find a copy. Thanks for the great video! Say hello to Joel and hug Jamie for me! ❤️📚

I put When We Were Sisters on my TBR a few months ago but that's as far as I got. It sounds excellent. I am currently reading A Room With a View and Wake: The Hidden History of Women-Led Slave Revolts. Two very different vibes! I noticed that June's Forster theme is movies, so that could be a catch-up time if you need it.

I finished A System So Magnificent it’s Blinding by Amanda Svensson TR by Nichola Smalley. I didn’t find it quirky but when I think about it is, but not really humorous if that makes sense and I did enjoy it and glad I read itSeemed like it good have been 2 books one about the brother and one about one of the sisters. Also read Ninth Building by Zou Jingzhi TR by Jeremy Ting and found it to be really good. Easy to see why it was on the International Booker long list

Hi, there is a book by an islandic writer Sjon, it's called Moonstone: The boy who never was. It deals with similar topics like The City of Night. It is great and very short. You might like it.

Trying to finish my two current reads so I can start on The Curator by Owen King (Stephen 's son). It looks like a great futuristic fantasy. I think the characters in Grapes go from being real humans to being almost mythological symbols of our highest natures. The Battle Hymn song came to author Julia Ward Howe in a dream.
