Will Self is also one of my favourite writers. I used to visit the university library every Thursday to read Will Self's latest column in the New Statesman. I love his nonfiction; I don't know of any other journalist as funny and intelligent.

I'm also a huge fan of Will Self! Somehow 'Elaine' managed to slip through my fanatical net, but I'll be pouncing on it as soon as it worms its way into second hand bookshops!

I realize now in my old age I would have never been a good preacher. I do not have the gift of clear speech. In day to day life I only really talk to my wife. Even around our children I tend to stay silent. My wife is a talker whereas I am an observer. I do listen to folks but most of what I hear is emptiness-has no weight. So I read to hear something interesting-to escape all the empty chatter. Even when I was go to church no one said anything meaningful-no one seem to be spiritually alive-no one had anything to communicate about the Lord-it was all emptiness and I got tired so I left-when I would open my mouth and share-talk folks looked at me like I was crazy or simply bored. I have withdrawn from the world to listen to the silence-or read-listen to my wife talk. In the end the Lord hears me in the darkness-in this Wasteland. Thank you for your kind words.
