Enjoying your videos. I find them very relaxing. Im reading Grudem's Systematic Theology. Had my eye on that 4 volume set from Beeke !

I have in my library Grudem's Systematic Theology but it has been years since I looked at it. I have read the first three volumes of Beeke's Reformed Systematic Theology but not number four yet. Thank you for watching my videos.

Thank you; I appreciated the content. What is your opinion on "The Institutes of Elenctic Theology" by Turretin?
@saintonfire777 ай бұрын
To be honest I bought Turretin many years ago to read him on the decrees of God. Many years ago the Protestant Reformed Church published a selection of Turretin on the decrees of God and I wanted to read the text for myself from the original. When I found out Turretin was being completely translated out of Latin into English I bought my set. I have not read Turretin in many years. So I can not give a judgment. Over the years I have collected Reformed theologies because like reading off and on Reformed Theology. peace

Fui muito inspirado a continuar estudando ao ver seu video. Realmente me pergunto o wue esses pastores estão lendo em nossas tempos?

Yes I often wonder what Pastor's are reading these days in mainline American churches.

Thanks for sharing your favorite theology books. I’m considering G C Berkouwer set. What do you think of his 14 volume set Jonny? Blessings Laurie

I have one used volume of Berkouwer on the doctrine of Sin. I have never read Berkouwer. Why are you considering buying Berkouwer? blessings
@Bookgirl31807 ай бұрын
It was an author RC Sproul was discussing on the “ podcast open book” that Steven Nichole does. RC was saying how much Berkouwer’s book “works of Christ “ did for his biblical understanding. There are 14 books total. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Blessings Jonny Laurie

@@Bookgirl3180 I have never read Berkouwer so I can not give an opinion. I had RC Sproul for a couple of classes when we were in seminary 38 years ago. I have never read Sproul or own any books by Sproul either. I am into the Reformed theologians shown in this view. I am into old Reformed Experimental Theology/if you buy these 14 volumes tell me what they are like. Reformed Systematic Theology Four Volumes Beeke & Smelly heritagebooks.org/products/reformed-systematic-theology-4-volumes-beeke.html Also I have found these one volume Systematic Theologies useful-instructive-give you a solid overview of Reformed Theology- 'Systematic Theology' one volume by Robert Letham 'The Wonderful Works Of God: Instruction in the Christian Religion according to the Reformed Confession' by Herman Bavinck 'Systematic Theology' one volume by Louis Berkhof Expanded Edition Published by the Banner of Truth Trust (this was the first Systematic Theology I read back in 1975-also a required textbook in Bible College and Seminary along with John Calvin, B.B. Warfield, and John Murray-blessings ADD more about R.C. Sproul-when we were at RTS Jackson Miss my Professor of Theology was Dr. Doug Kelly-the Seminary had Sproul give classes at Night open to the public on The Doctrine of God and a night class open to the public (they paid money to attend these classes-extra money for the Seminary maybe also Sproul? Anyway I sat in on the night classes because Sproul was real talker-entertaining public speaker-in the Doctrine of God class Sproul used Herman Bavinck on The Doctrine of God for our classroom text-I had already read it-many years ago the Dutch Translation Society had translated Bavinck's Reformed Dogmatic's-back then all one had was a paperback containing just Bavinck's section on The Doctrine of God whereas now one can purchase the four volume set of Bavinck's Dogmatic's-which is one of my favorite's. While Sproul was at RTS he had classes open to the public at night and he wrote during the day or spoke at different PCA churches-my wife listen's to Sproul on her cell phone-I suppose I have never been into Sproul-nice Christian fellow but I prefer Dr. Beeke or the Old 17th century Puritan Divines. In the end I love the Bible. blessings

So nice to hear back from you Jonny with so much great information! Yes, I have purchased the set of berkouwer that was offered used on the reformation heritage book site( provided it was not scooped up buy another). This also was a tip from you buying books here which I have purchased so many from now. Thanks to your suggestion awhile back. I will definitely let you know about the set. I also purchased a Louis Berkhof theology 1 volume also from your recommendation. I thoroughly enjoyed your comments on RC Sproul! What I wouldn’t give to have listened to him in person back in the day. I have watched his early years lectures online and podcast now for years. He was truly gifted of God in explaining the difficult passages. I have found over the years we all come to find our own mentors in the faith and those who have inspired us. I believe all divinely ordained. God has us all right where we need to be. My own journey has lead me on many interesting paths. One, that currently has me enthralled with collecting a few books from each of the mentors of the ones I considered have influenced me. So for RC it is Berkouwer, John Piper is is Daniel Fuller, and even your influence Jonny has lead me to purchase several books I may never have heard of or considered like Jack Kerouac, and St. John the cross. Admittedly I have more books than I have years to read them all, but I so enjoy reading bits of each and truly does help my Christian walk. I don’t think any one person has all the right views or can possibly explore the depths of God, but if I have the best of what I consider the closest to my interpretation of the Bible then I have just a little better understanding for myself. I believe God gives us each a little part of himself. Maybe this is my was of understanding Him better. Have a very blessed evening Jonny, I know you are because you have a wife that shares your Love of the Lord. Keep up the posts I’m learning so much. And I’ll add Bavinck’s set to my list. I almost did buy that beautiful set reformation heritage put out last year. Dang it! I have my eye on so many, John Murray’s set also. So many books and so little time. Super nice chatting! My best to your family Jonny. Take care🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
