Another attempt to seamlessly edit the low-resolution uncut footage back into an HD transfer of the film. This one being Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. Enjoy.

The MPAA definitely had it in for this series. I don't see anything there which deserved to get cut.

You had to be there in the 80's, there was a huge backlash to slasher movies and the Friday series in particular was seen as barely a step above porn. Also realize that this was the decade where parents often threw out their teenager's heavy metal albums.

The MPAA hated the Friday the 13th films. They thought they were morally reprehensible trash, so they forced Paramount to cut most of the movies back considerably more than most other horror films at the time. It’s how they “got back” at Paramount, so to speak.

I believe a lot of the cut master film footage from this series doesn't exist any more or it is in poor condition. When it hit the cutting room floor they didn't feel the need to preserve it, so most of it is very low resolution transfers. Very unfortunate.
@creategreatness88236 ай бұрын
@@bumblefritz I do think that digital clean up and even AI upscaling technology is becoming advanced enough that one day soon we might be able to take this low quality footage and bring it up to a 4K quality that is ALMOST seamless and it able to cut into the films. It wouldn't be perfect, but even from a few years ago there are examples of upscaling old video-tape quality videos into HD or 4K and getting some fairly impressive results. So in a few years, any advanced program that is fed in all of the perfect 4K footage of the proper film around it, and then given this lower grade footage...could likely make it all blend together quite well. Again, it would never be PERFECT but it would be a dramatic improvement over just cutting in all of this low grade footage.

This is my favorite in the series. I read an interview with the director where he said he was aware how much the MPAA would cut from these movies and how if he made the kills to gory, he might be left with some really lame death scenes because he’d have to cut so much. So he directed the deaths where even if he had to cut out the shots with blood and guts they would still work, which I think is clear from the version we got.

I feel that between the 'uncut' footage that exists, even in lower quality...the footage we DO have in the final cuts....coupled with modern technology that can be used to clean up footage, upscale footage, and digital technology that could be used to enhance existing footage.....I think that somehow, some way....we could EASILY be given uncut versions of all of these films. Maybe not every one of them would be exactly as they were originally presented. But you could take footage that is there, slow it down, extend the shots, add in digital blood and gore enhancements. You can clean up the old footage as best as possible, upscale it as best as possible, use image information and digital effects to place the heavier gore effects into newly created versions of the shots using the old shots as a basis. I just feel like if they REALLY took all of the footage they have, of all of the varying qualities, and used all of the modern tools at their disposal....they could absolutely 100% give us much bloodier versions of these films that would at least be a serviceable approximation of the original versions
@sdjslkdjlsskldjslkdjsl82628 ай бұрын
digital blood would 100% look horrible. CG isn't there yet where you can just add an effect like that in an 80s movie and make it look seamless
@creategreatness88236 ай бұрын
@@sdjslkdjlsskldjslkdjsl8262 I'm not saying necessarily just throw a bunch of CGI blood into everything. But between AI upscaling and digital clean up and touch up work, you could definitely "re-create" versions of these uncut/extended kills using the lower quality extended footage, and with some work it could be matched and re-inserted in a way that feel pretty seamless with the rest of the film.
@creategreatness8823Ай бұрын
@@sdjslkdjlsskldjslkdjsl8262 I'm not talking about adding a bunch of CGI blood(although that could be done more effectively than it was 20 years ago for something like AVP unrated)...I'm trying to emphasize more-so the ability of AI technology to use the "uncut" lower quality footage as a baseline...and then use all of the surrounding pristine footage as a "target" to then try and make the lower quality footage "match" It wouldn't be 100% perfect and seamless, but the results would be shockingly good...especially when you consider that we are talking about mere seconds of "bad" footage that must then be cleaned up, enhanced, and up-scaled to a degree that would allow it to cut together in a convincing manner.

According to Tom Mcloughlin- Sissy and Paula’s deaths were meant to be far more brutal. With Sissy you could see close ups of her neck being twisted and torn apart before her head was ripped off and Paula’s gory remains were supposed scattered all over the cabin, including her brains, intestines and other sticky bits strewn about. The MPAA was really goofy back then. They'd troll Paramount by telling them to trim a bit here and there to get the R rating. Paramount would submit the movie, the MPAA would reject the movie again and tell Paramount that they needed to make even more trims. This back and forth would happen at least five or six times times before the R rating would finally be given.

Interesting catch. I didn't edit any scenes out, only added some. I played my extended cut side by side with the theatrical cut blu-ray rip I used for the edit and oddly enough my extended cut is playing slightly faster as if it was sped up by .01x during the compression process. I really don't have an explanation for that, but I hope it doesn't detract from the viewing experience.
