Hi Stephanie, thanks for popping by! I think my hubby will love the shirt and I'm desperate to give it to him 😂. I have a couple more things to make for him when I get back but people have warned me they are tricky 😫. We are having an amazing time in Austria so I'm going to have some great pictures to show 👏🏼. Thanks again my friend, hope you are having a great week 😘❄️☃️

My default fabric purchase is 3 yards so that I don't have to worry about not having enough! But that means my "scrap stash" is getting out of hand. I'm sure there's a happy medium between us 🤣 I love the fabric you've used for your daughter's top !! 🧵 Oh my goodness, I am one of those people in FL that definitely LOVE that colorful floral fabric! It's gorgeous! 🧵 I like that camp shirt pattern for your hubby. I want to make a shirt like that for my hubby. He would like that AC/DC fabric as well 😊Austria sounds amazing - you take some of the best trips! Have a great weekend Carole!!

Gulp 3 yards, I’ve just said to Izzy I think I have only braved that a couple of times 😆. I need to better wiser though when it comes to buying quantities you can bet your bottom dollar more is never available when you go back to look 😩. That fabric is SO my daughter, she is going to love it I know, shame I didn’t have enough for the though. I knew you would like that floral fabric! 😍🌸. That shirt pattern is so quick as no collar stand or fancy bits and I’ve just done the buttonholes and whoop whoop they all came out ok! Are you like me and sit there more or less with your fingers crossed when making them? I am so looking forward to Austria this year as we won’t be under pressure to ski 😰, just hoping to enjoy the beautiful scenery. 🏔. Thanks for watching and have super weekend. 🤗❤️

That top turned out great, Carole. The color looks fantastic on you. If I am buying fabric for a specific project, I buy what is needed with a little extra for insurance. If I am buying just because, I alway get 3 yards minimum. If I am ordering online when the price is 2,3 or 4 dollars per yard, I buy the maximum which is usually 10 yards. I can get quite a few dresses out of 10 yards! Too bad you couldn’t get pictures of the inside of the bunker, it would have been great to see. Thanks for the ones that you did do. I see that Mickey knew something that you didn’t, lol. Have a wonderful weekend.
@socarole662 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue, thank you for your kind words. Everyone seems to have said they buy 3 yards of fabric or more so I definitely need to change my ways to make my life easier! It also means I don't end up with small (but too big to be thrown away) bits that just sit in my cupboard. What a great idea to buy a lot when it is a good price, you see, I don't even think of that🤣 There is a video on youtube of the inside of the bunker, complete with graffiti if you were interested. Look up RAF Ibsley Battle Command HQ. Mickey just wasn't going in there, we tried but nope! Thanks so much for watching and have a lovely sun filled weekend 😊

I’m guilty of short changing myself when buying fabric and was getting so frustrated with it. So I’ve decided to buy more and if I have left overs I’ll make "something" for one of my grandies. My youngest granddaughter is 4 so I’ll consider that a win if she gets a garment from it too. 🌹❤️ again it’s been such a pleasure to tune into you’re Friday sews Vlog.
@socarole662 жыл бұрын
Yes Heidi I am definitely going to do that from now until the end of the year and see if I use it up a little better as I will be left with larger bits. Great idea to make stuff for little ones and someone also said dolls clothes, I don’t have granddaughters but I could always donate them. Here is to a year of more fabric 🤣. Thanks for watching and hope you have a great week. ❤️

Hi Carole, fascinating find in the RAF bunker! Writing to let you know the leggings pattern in New Look 6529 is in 4 pieces, which I found extremely ill fitting. I’d look elsewhere if you need leggings, like Jalie. And, here’s my rule of thumb, for wide knits, I buy 2 if it’s for a top, and 3 if I want a top and pants, often have leftovers so I also collect patterns with lots of little pieces to put together. Since I do have a clear palette I work from, sooner or later everything fits in somehow. Thanks! Have a great trip.
@socarole662 жыл бұрын
Hello and thank you for that tip on the leggings. I can never find the right type of fabric so tend to avoid making them but I’ve heard that Jalie are good. Everyone seems to agree with you on 2 and 3 metres so I need to change what I buy clearly, it’s better to have a bigger bit left over than the odd bits I get and far less stress! Have a wonderful weekend 😊

We definitely seem to be in the minority Grace, so many people have said they buy 3 yards and that's something I never do unless I'm doing a specific pattern that requires it. Austria in the Winter? Brrrr...but very pretty! Enjoy your holiday!! I was there one year in the Fall for Oberammergau and it was very rainy and cold. I like that your husband will wear what you make for him. I've wanted to make a few things for William but he says not to spend my sewing time with making something for him. He likes all the other things I've made for me and for the house though. I haven't "visited" my sewing nook all week. Nope. I've had a few other different things come up this week to keep me busy elsewhere. So be it. We're supposed to have some colder weather settling in on us over for the next few days so I just might have to get started with my first sewing project of '23! Have a good one!! PS When I was heavy in to quilting, I would always buy 1 yard of fabric here and there on sales. My stash grew fast. Now that I'm sewing clothing that 1 yard of fabric doesn't do much for me. If I'm buying up during a sale, I buy at least 3, maybe 4 yards, of fabric. Depends on the type of fabric it is and what I think I might use it for. Any scraps I have are given to a lady in the area who makes animal bedding for the shelters. Very little fabric goes to waste.
@socarole662 жыл бұрын
Hi Deb, I hope you are ok, I missed you with Tea Tuesday this week. Fall in Austria must have been so pretty. The colder the better for us when we go and lots of snow please. When you are fully dressed up for the cold you really don't mind, the mountain restaurants and bars are always so cosy and warm! Chris is one of those men that really doesn't care what he wears luckily and would wear the same thing every day if I didn't sneakily do wardrobe rotations for him 🤣 It seems that I am the only one that hasn't ever really bought 3 metres (yards) of fabric! I suppose the more you get the bigger the remnant you have so the possibilities are greater. I do give all my scrappy bits to the charity shop as they sell them to companies for rags. Your idea is a great one though, I had never thought of that! I really hope you get into your nook soon and hope that what has been keeping you busy this week isn't too traumatic for you both. Take care xxx
@DebsWay2 жыл бұрын
Hi Carole! It was a different sort of week here for us but we are both fine. I didn't even go into my sewing nook until this afternoon when I grabbed a couple of patterns to get cut out and ready to go when I'm ready to sew.. I think I'll start my sewing year by making 2 tops -- B6690 and B6859. I was supposed to go to a class last Saturday to work on the B6690 pattern but had to stay home and take care of William. He was so sick for a few days earlier this week. When he started feeling better, I had my podiatrist appointment where I got fitted for a "boot" to hold me heel and ankle inactive. The doctor said that now I have tendonitis. Go figure! It's one thing or another these days. It has been an awkward few days having to wear this boot and my activities have been limited. I'm not complaining though; not really. If it eases the foot pain, I will be so glad. Weather is turning colder here for a few days now. I just might be spending time back in my sewing nook. Have a great week-end!
@socarole662 жыл бұрын
@@DebsWay oh Deb what a week you've had. Hope William is on the mend now and your poor foot! Hope you manage to get in that lovely nook of yours this weekend, even for half an hour or so. I'm usually doing good if I can get a couple of hours in my sewing room at one crack. That sort of thing doesn't happen often, that's for sure. I'll probably get some sewing done this week-end though. I just heard that the overnight temp tonight will be around 38F with a high around 54F tomorrow during the day. This is what our temps will be like over the next few days it seems. Time to hibernate again!!

Fabric quantities is often hard to predict. Maybe see how much you used on a past item and write that down for next time? In southern Australia todays temp is 41C. The hottest of the week which has been high 30’s. I hate it but the air con saves the day and night. Wednesday looks to be 29 and rain. Hanging out for that. I’m looking forward to Autumn which traditionally is a lovely season here. Enjoy Austria.
@socarole662 жыл бұрын
Hi Diane, gosh you temperatures have been high recently but as you say you are coming into Autumn now which I imagine is much more tolerable. I tend to buy 1 1/5 m which allows for long sleeved tees and cropped trousers or just 1m for T shirts. The problem comes when I think I have fabric to use for my daughter or a more flouncy project and realise I just bought my standard amount. When it is for something specific I don't have a problem its when I buy fabric because I like it but just want it in my stash is the issue. Most people seem to buy 3 yards so I definitely need to be buying more going forward! We are in Austria a week from today so very excited! Thanks for watching and enjoy your rain this week. 😊

Love your makes from this week! If I’m buying fabric with no specific plan for it, I usually buy 3 meters. I never make very voluminous dresses so I can usually make anything I need with 3 meters. You made me laugh when you showed your new fabric! “Most of my fabric is for summer so I bought a few things…” proceeds to show us viscose linen and cotton lawn 😂 I do love the fabric you bought and that blue for your husband’s tee is stunning! Hope you have a good weekend! 💞

Thanks Izzy, I know, more Summer fabric 😂. But it is just so much nicer than endless French Terry and Sweatshirting! Buying 3 metres terrifies me, I think I have only done that once or twice but then if I add up all the times I have had to buy more when I’ve just bought 1.5 then yes, I have bought 3 🤣. I have so many pieces of fabric in my stash that is only a metre it only allows me to make short sleeve tops which is so annoying. I need to learn to colour block more I think. That blue for my hubby is just so lovely isn’t it? Maybe I will keep it for me instead 😉. Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for watching 🥰🇬🇧☃️
