Check out this video also I found afterwards: • Permanently stop your ...
Video showing how to temporarily fix an issue where ice build-up on the coils inside your fridge can contact a fan behind an internal plastic panel and make a humming/vibrating/clipping noise. This fan shuts off whenever you open the door, so if yours is acting similarly, it may be worth trying this. The correct solution is to fix the defrosting mechanism, which likely involves replacing a thermometer/thermostat or defrost switch.
This is on a Samsung RF28HFEDBSR

Thank you for your guidance! Mine was frozen pretty good and I was able to use a hairdryer behind the main plate enough to pull out the block of ice that was rubbing against the fan. Bought me a few more months before I need to break down and buy a new one (stopped making ice years ago).

My moms fridge had this problem. One thing we think contributed to the ice build up is that the drain lines on bottom-back of the fridge were not draining into the drip pan. This caused water to build up behind that panel, all the way up under the coolant line. To fix this, unplug the fridge, take off the panel behind the fridge on the bottom, there are three hoses that pull off. Each one has a white stopper thing attached to it that I think is meant to keep critters from crawling up the drain line, but they eventually get moldy and clog. Take them off and rinse off any mold. Put them back together. That should make allow the back panel to drain correctly and keep water, and therefore ice, from building up behind that panel.

not buying a samsung fridge again, ice maker issues and now this fan issue. I have a forced defrost mode by holding freezer and lighting button for 15seconds, then press freezer button until rd (refrigerator defrost). FD does fridge and freezer defrost that can work to. you can keep pressing defrost button and it will cycle through again until you hit right setting. Yours may too. I needed to run 5 cycles and it still caked up again in 1 month. Terrible design.

WOW that's a lot of ice, I have the same problem but not nearly the same amount of ice build up. I use an old hair dryer to melt it off, don't want to take a chance with pipes and wires, takes me about 15mins. I use to have to do mine about every 6 months, its now every 10-11mths. What I've done is to not place too many items too close to the back panel of the fridge, I leave a little space between your food/containers/popcans/etc and it seems to allow the ice to defrost at a greater rate.

@@fiveohmxco time will tell, we use to stack pop cans and bottles on the top shelf right to the back of the fridge where the fan is, the cans and bottles would get real cold, I suspect between the circulating cold air and cold cans/bottles right up against the panel it keeps the area too cold to melt...just a theory as to why I can go a longer period of time without removing the panel to manually defrost it.

This problem started today. I could not release the bottom shelf. Pushed on opposing tabs to no avail. I might have to drill them out to finally free that shelf. I goosed the fridge into a defrost cycle by using the 'rd' command. That didn't fix it. I noticed that the fridge temperature setpoint was at its lowest limit -- 34 F. After some research I came to realize that 37 F would be just fine. I have it at 38 F now and the noise is gone. Maybe I'll bump it down to 37. I won't go back to 34 F.

It would take hours for that block of ice around the fan to defrost. The defrost mechanism is only routed around the coil and does not have a loop near the fan. But force defrost definitely would be recommended for disassembly of the internal panel. I should’ve done that, and do that now that I know about it.

Dude, so many things wrong with this. I'm no Samsung shill, about to toss their crap out of my house actually, and I came here cuz I'm having the same issues. But..... - Your back wall is cracked behind the evaporating cover panel (panel that the holds the fan you removed screws from). - You pulled the frozen cover panel off to the back when still frozen which removed and cracked styrofoam around the area for insulation. - You broke off ice with a screw driver using a wrench as a hammer which likely caused the cracks to the back wall. - If your water filter is hard to twist out, make sure your water line to the fridge is off (didn't see you add that). The ice on and around your coils resemble ice buildup on an open container of ice cream after 7mths in the freezer untouched. Sure you have buildup but adding breakages of open air doesn't help. Sorry to be blunt but points two and three can cause more harm and trouble to actually fix. Thank you for providing the link you updated this video with!!!!
