The most horrifying thing about Devil Mario? He's been subjected to Adaptational Context Change to make his lines, which are actually from his home series, foreshadow the rogues gallery's status as Horror Mario's puppets, Horror Mario's victory, and even how Horror Mario wins. In the case of the last one, one of Devil Mario's game over quotes (he's one of the four opponents who has these, the other three being DJ Hallyboo, Mr. Virtual and Ultra M) is this: "Is there anything more painful than seeing those you love... die?" In the original context, he said this to taunt the real Mario after defeating Luigi and killing him and Peach, though that ended up being his undoing, as Mario kills himself afterwards, taking Devil Mario with him. In the context of the mod, however, he's referring to how Horror Mario aims to kill Girlfriend as punishment for Daddy Dearest's jackassery, and killing Girlfriend is exactly how Horror Mario defeats Boyfriend: canonically, Boyfriend literally cannot live without Girlfriend, making her his weakness. An entity stronger than the combined strength of Girlfriend’s parents should be able to off Girlfriend, and that is exactly what Horror Mario is if he has the home ground advantage, which he clearly has during the mod.

Devil Mario, on the other hand, does not care about following the beat, and will only give you a quick, small unsheath noise, plus a slight screen zoom in, as your warning. There is very clearly a difference in difficulty between the two mechanics. I would even argue Devil Mario's attack is harder to dodge than MX's.

I'm not lying when I say this is my absolute favorite outta the mod. I didn't even ever watch the series as a kid, but something about this song just CLICKED with me from those beginning notes from Devil Mario (I think they were the best part btw). It's not as climatic as All Stars or as dramatic as Unbeatable, but it's just so much better to me for whatever reason. I think it's mostly the vocals that really sell it the most to me, Devil Mario's are just so heavenly and BF's don't annoy me for once. Stunning work.
