17:35 interesting. Didn't know that about Kiesels.
@TONEWARSgearshow8 ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting. My Kiesel is also on the bright side. Even though it has the same pickups as my Majesty guitars it's still brighter than them. I don't understand why that is the case. Some people say it's the bridge or the pots. I'm going to do some experimenting when I get a chance and try to address that issue.

@davidlee833316 күн бұрын
It's odd that these guys are saying these two units sound so similar early in this video, when it's clear that tone between the two units in this demonstration is so very different. (Although a bit later in the video they sound much more similar with EQ adjusted.) I happen to be listening through Koss Porta Pro headphones plugged in directly to my computer, and the differences in tone are very obvious. It makes me wonder, are their ears blown out from years of playing guitar through loud amplifiers? Or are the speakers or monitoring equipment they are using in this video somehow masking most of the differences in tone? Early in this video, the IR-D sounds much thicker and darker with much more low end, while the IR-X sounds has much more presence in the upper mids and is tighter in the low end (less bass), which could potentially be more useful in a mix. Yet on the other hand, at 15:35, the IR-X sounded warmer than the IR-D, just like they said. But is that because the EQ's on the two units were perhaps set differently? I don't know. I like with the IR-D, you can set up the first channel for a very crunchy tone with it's own EQ, and set up the second channel for a lead tone, again with it's own EQ. (Just like what the guy on the right said at 11:42.) From what I understand, the IR-X is much more limited in the amount of gain available on first channel, such that it is only good for clean or edge of breakup tones. With the IR-D, there's a full range of gain available on both channels. It would be convenient to set up a tone on one channel, and then see if it can be improved on the other channel, and A/B them to determine which one is preferable.

@@michaelmitchell5909 This is a silly question, but I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to some things that seems so simple for others. @surefire1333 if your using this pedal as a preamp, the output on the pedal goes to the return on the effects loop on the amp.

If I understand correctly, if the Friedman IR X or D is run through an FX loop of any amp, you get 2 more amplifiers automatically? Wow. 500.00 for two more amps. Sounds like a super deal.

Second. And I was waiting for a vid just like this. THOUGH I really wanted to see a comparizon to the IR-X's Channel 1, as that is a Plexi like preamp, compared to the IR-D's JTM45 ish circuit.
@Stephen_Shaheen8 ай бұрын
We should have touched on that! Ch1 on the IR-X has way less gain than the IR-D and it’s voiced more like the IR-X. If we dialed the gain back on the IR-D that would have been an interesting comparison

@@Stephen_Shaheen I think so too.

Not sure what y'all are talking about. I'm reasonably certain that channels 1 and 2 are identical. Are you just referring to rolling down the gain in general?
@Stephen_Shaheen8 ай бұрын
@@slugtoenail Correct. The IR-D can do classic tones with the internal boost off and the gain rolled back. It’s a little different than the low gain channel of the IR-X
@justmehere60948 ай бұрын
@@slugtoenail Yes, the IR-D's channels are the same, both the Dirty Shirley preamp. But the IR-X (first preamp pedal, from last year) has 2 differeny channels, channel 1 being a plexi preamp (Friedman version) and Channel 2 beig a BE-100 preamp. So talking about a lower gain comparison of either IR-D channe, which is a Dirty Shirly, that Dave Friedman based off of the JTM45 ampl to Channel 1 of the IR-X (based off of a Plexi ). Video Aboce compared the IR-Ds Dirty Shirly channel(s) to the IR-X's BE100 channel
