I was just a hair away from grabbing a Dirty Shirley mini, and then this came out. I had no idea he was working on MkII versions of the mini series. So, I was completely stoked. All the research (and waiting) this little beast is one of the best sounding amps I've ever owned. I already own the Silver Jubilee mini, which IMHO has THE best Marshall tone if you're after that percussive 80's sound....but, it's a bit of a one-trick pony. I'm running it through a Friedman 4X12, and it's exactly what I wanted it to be without all the juice of a 100watt (or even a 40watt) amp. We live in an incredible day and age of gear. I've purchased all my gear through Sweetwater, and they've treated me like gold. Sweetwater has picked up where the 70's and 80's left off when the big-box stores used to be run by pro's.

Always a treat to catch your vids. I just picked up a runt combo, myself. Man, it was a revelation. Your demos got me curious about Friedman amps and found one I didn't have to take a 2nd mortgage for. Incredible sound, I would've definetly checked out Little Sister before settling on my amp, but absolutely no regrets. Great tone on both amps.

I think that intro song is called "Fire Station." :) This Friedman amp sounds like a Friedman, which is to say it sounds like a very good Marshall. Dave doesn't make anything that sounds bad. Great demo as ALWAYS.

I think a DB meter would be great as a demo aid, as low volume means different things to different people! No way (in my world) would I say "noon" is low volume.

They should be the same for home use, you’re going to be riding your master for both and IIRC Friedman masters are excellent

Hi, Mr D. The Little Sister is based on a Marshall JTM45 so while it sounds incredible, it just depends on what you’re after. If you’re doing 60’s British blues like early Clapton, Zeppelin, etc then it will be amazing. It wouldn’t be my first choice for cleaner blues like BB King or Buddy Guy. I don’t know of many jazz players who use Marshall style amps. Not saying it couldn’t be done but probably wouldn’t be my first thought. Most of the other Friedman amps have more gain than this one so if this one doesn’t do it for you, then another Friedman probably wouldn’t either. Thanks for your interest! *Can someone tell me if this amp can keep up with a 2x guitarist hard rock band? (i.e.: AD/DC kind of stuff) I don't want it completely dimed to the hilt, all the time. I'm loving the tone, but concerned it may not have enough juice for real ban gigging... lemme know plz??

Hey, vg-tube! Great question and thanks for your interest. It’s going to depend on the application, but I think there is a good chance you would be pushing the volume with this kind of setup if playing that style with a full rock band. On stage, if you have a mic on it, it’s of course going to be plenty of power and great tone, but if you need to rely solely on the amp to keep up with a hard-hitting drummer, a big bass stack, a yelling vocalist and another guitarist it might be tough in some situations! So, I would say it really depends on what the other members in your band are utilizing and the volumes they’re playing at, it’s all going to be relative to that. I hope this helps! Thanks for your question, Jonathan. I don’t see this as the right amp for that era of music if you’re only using amp gain. A drive pedal would make it far easier to get early metal tones and also allow you to let the amp do what it does best which is more of a crunch tone. I feel the same, though not in this economy, unfortunately. I'm surprised Friedman's been able to keep the lights on as a smaller builder (compared to Fender, Marshall, etc.). Business from celebrity/big clients only goes so far. Keeping prices high for us regular joes is the likely the only way Friedman can generate the profit necessary keep things going on the amp side.

I used to feel that way also and yes it isn't cheap, but in recent times I believe if you want legitimate quality, there's no way around it, you have to pay for it. The makers need to be compensated for good craftsmanship which is something to value and uphold in the world. Otherwise it will become just like so many other iconic brands with their mass produced stuff that doesn't compare and is made by slaves paid in bowls of rice. Plus generally speaking the world was better back in the day when people saved up and bought quality items that they cherished and cared for, it lead to far less wastage, and far more appreciation.

I love the clean sparkle. The 3:00 distorted sounds are all too much. I play blues and jazz. Sounds better with a Les Paul. I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10.
