Love the tone!! Seems like a great choice for the Hendrix, Frusciante, SRV type tones that I like dialing up with my '57 Strat! Perfect for my new funky, bluesy, groove rock album that I'm heading into the studio to start on next month!! Thanks for that really nice run through on the really nice range that it has!

Jesus Christ; those tones are absolutely gorgeous. Not taking away anything from this obviously super impressive amp, but Rabea just has a way of dialing in the most perfect tones. Honestly this video is the best advertisement Friedman could have ever asked for. Amp sounds killer; Bea thank you for doing a tasty and thorough review as always!!

Hahaha! Imagine a non-musical person asking you to describe a tone! "Well, it's gainy with a little hair on it, a bark in the mids and a bite in the highs with a lot of fat all around, which is a little too thick, so I would tighten it up with some brightness to give it some pizzazz." Lol it's funny because I totally get what you're saying, as a guitarist! I'm sure anyone who values sound, whether it's because they play, or whether they are just appreciators, will understand. But I always wonder how people, without that inclination, interpret or feel about descriptions like that. Like "Your sound has hair? Bark? Bite? Fat? Tail? Why does your guitar sound like a dog that needs some exercise? It sounds like a guitar to me." Lmao! This was a great video sir! Thank you

My god, Rabea, you’re looking so fit and healthy. What a spectacular and inspiring transformation over the past years! I can imagine you might not be so keen on it, but I would LOVE for you to do an episode on being a musician and getting fit. What your workout routine is, how you maintain it on the road, what the particular challenges are, how you deal with backstage catering and nutrition on tour. How you find and make the time to stay active. Would be a great story for many of us.

I just picked up the combo version and i’m blown away. I have owned Marshall, Splawn, Boogie, Dr Z, Fender, Bogner, etc, and several models of each. For me they do not do what this amp does. This amp has SO much feel when you play it! I kept my Mesa Triple crown 50 head and cab, my 1992 JCM 900 50w 1/2 stack, and Marshall 4501 combo, but honestly they are probably going to be music room decor, and friendly reminders of my tone quest / musical journey minus about 100 amps. This amp completely rips with a OCD pedal over the high gain setting also. This video got me to the store, the amp did the rest.

Bea, that Strat is very special. It sounds so clear yet beefy in every pickup position. Also, your intonation is always spot-on. A very under-rated aspect of playing IMO. Rabea I do have a question. How would an amp like this sound with something more modern say like your Kraken/ Super kraken used in stereo? Does it make sense tonally to blend 2 amps that different together? Or am I just reaching for something that isn't there?
@SlimeyGuitarStrings
@SlimeyGuitarStrings 4 жыл бұрын
My guess is not as good. The Victory Kraken is designed to have one amp on each channel with the british voiced amp using EL34 and the American voiced running 6L6 or something like that. If you were looking something more akin to that in the Friedman lineup, the JJ would probably be the closest. Jerry Cantrell runs them in stereo with one on the JBE channel and the other on the HBE channel from my understanding. From my understanding there's a way to run a wet dry wet rig by micing the dry cab and then running effects on it which might work on the dirty shirley better, but it will still be a different vibe.

I have a Dirty Shirley 40 Amazing amp You can run it with a fair amount of gain and responds so well to playing dynamics and guitar volume and pickup selection. It cleans up and has this open, 3d quality to it with chime and complexity with overtones and harmonics. Hit it with a boost (the Friedman Buxom Boost is magic with this amp) and it will go into Soldano territory for solos I will be getting one of the Twin Sisters Every multi channel amp I have had seemed to suffer from me loving one channel but not the other one or two With the wide variety of tone and gain from the preamp section of this amp you can set it up the way you want to. When I saw this amp get announced I was like “that is freaking brilliant “ These amps have such a great feel them too.. Nice review

I think Rabea would agree with me if I answered for the both of us and say the SLO. The twin sister is great, but you can get all of these tones with the crunch switch engaged on the normal mode. Then you have another further gain stage after that at your disposal as well. All phenomenal amps. You really get what you pay for with gear these days. They're investments, and harbingers of Joy. Plus, they will last your entire life and always have resale value which rewards us with the tantalizing journey as musicians to experience as many greats as we can. ✌️

I worked my way up to the smallbox limited. It’s got extra gain than the regular smallbox. It was spec’d by Wildwood Guitars. Best amp ever. And grabbed it in off white. I used awful amps for yrs. Waited til I deserved better and obviously saved up. Traded up from the pink taco, regular smallbox and now sold them off and have this limited version. It’s the most I’ve spent on amp and won’t be doing that again. I have to say I also love the lunchbox size Egnater tweaker 15 head. But thx to this guy here and a few others I gave in and got the quad cortex. Passed on it twice when it was $1400. Then gave in recently cost me more but 900 people in front of me I grabbed a mint used one. Reasonably priced. Feels like an amp and sounds great too. Imo the best modeler I’ve tried. FYI the Friedman takes any pedal I throw at it.

Bea.... It's the same thing with my Les Paul and my Dirty Shirley, when you really spank the strings and Dig In on chords or single note stuff, it gives you that bark and bite and sting of a marshall Plexi, I think it's because it's tube rectified...... if you play normal it sounds good but doesn't have very much attack because of the SAG, people say there easier to play on but I feel like you got to really stay on it to make it bark and sing...... I also think that's why it sounds so dynamic, because it's a bit spongy when you play soft, so it doesn't drive the amp as hard...... so I'm pretty sure I know exactly what you're talking about LOL

Dig your take on this, and the knowledge to dial and play it up! Just bought a SS V2 Friedman and is my first Friedman amp purchase after everything else, seems like It will be sick for what I do

As a guy with a 50 watt Plexi (which cost me $600.00 USD) I can always hear the Marshall thing coming out of all the Friedman amps. Big but! I can see that you get great value for money when you compare them to other gourmet amps. BUT for those guys where over $1000'00 USD is too much than even more is irrelevant!

Dream tones !!! The perfect amp! Looking up the price and thinking “whew”… BUT then my buddy says something that made all the sense in the world. “Seems like if you buy that amp you’ll actually ‘save’ money in the scheme of things”. Brilliant! …and very true. The search is over.
