I just picked up the combo version and i’m blown away. I have owned Marshall, Splawn, Boogie, Dr Z, Fender, Bogner, etc, and several models of each. For me they do not do what this amp does. This amp has SO much feel when you play it! I kept my Mesa Triple crown 50 head and cab, my 1992 JCM 900 50w 1/2 stack, and Marshall 4501 combo, but honestly they are probably going to be music room decor, and friendly reminders of my tone quest / musical journey minus about 100 amps. This amp completely rips with a OCD pedal over the high gain setting also. This video got me to the store, the amp did the rest.

Jesus Christ; those tones are absolutely gorgeous. Not taking away anything from this obviously super impressive amp, but Rabea just has a way of dialing in the most perfect tones. Honestly this video is the best advertisement Friedman could have ever asked for. Amp sounds killer; Bea thank you for doing a tasty and thorough review as always!!

My god, Rabea, you’re looking so fit and healthy. What a spectacular and inspiring transformation over the past years! I can imagine you might not be so keen on it, but I would LOVE for you to do an episode on being a musician and getting fit. What your workout routine is, how you maintain it on the road, what the particular challenges are, how you deal with backstage catering and nutrition on tour. How you find and make the time to stay active. Would be a great story for many of us.

Bea, that Strat is very special. It sounds so clear yet beefy in every pickup position. Also, your intonation is always spot-on. A very under-rated aspect of playing IMO. People like you and Andy Timmons seem to be able to sound perfect all the way up the neck. For the rest of us, there's Evertune 😉. Great demo!

Love the tone!! Seems like a great choice for the Hendrix, Frusciante, SRV type tones that I like dialing up with my '57 Strat! I have a Dirty Shirley 40 Amazing amp You can run it with a fair amount of gain and responds so well to playing dynamics and guitar volume and pickup selection. It cleans up and has this open, 3d quality to it with chime and complexity with overtones and harmonics. Hit it with a boost (the Friedman Buxom Boost is magic with this amp) and it will go into Soldano territory for solos I will be getting one of the Twin Sisters Every multi channel amp I have had seemed to suffer from me loving one channel but not the other one or two With the wide variety of tone and gain from the preamp section of this amp you can set it up the way you want to. When I saw this amp get announced I was like “that is freaking brilliant “ These amps have such a great feel them too.. Nice review
@LucasMastropasqua4 жыл бұрын
Friedman really knows his stuff! He’s one of the OG amp guys that knows what great tone is and knows exactly how to bring that beast out of any amp. I’ve modded an amp to be a clone of the Phil x amp and the Butterslax amps in one and Dave is my inspiration when it comes to amp building! I’m super curious what your review on the Butterslax amp 3rd channel would be like!

That's the best sounding amp I've ever heard. I love the jtm45 sound, so I always loved the Dirty Shirley, but this thing adds more modern features that are really usable. If I had any practical use for it I would buy one in a heartbeat, but alas, I will stick to my little Sheriff 22 head.

14:20 and beyond is just the GOAT tone. They recently came out with a smaller version of this, the Little Sister, and I ordered it. If I can have similar sounds in a smaller package with the new bright/tight and gain switches, I'm going to be super happy.

I worked my way up to the smallbox limited. It’s got extra gain than the regular smallbox. It was spec’d by Wildwood Guitars. Best amp ever. And grabbed it in off white. I used awful amps for yrs. Waited til I deserved better and obviously saved up. Traded up from the pink taco, regular smallbox and now sold them off and have this limited version. It’s the most I’ve spent on amp and won’t be doing that again. I have to say I also love the lunchbox size Egnater tweaker 15 head. But thx to this guy here and a few others I gave in and got the quad cortex. Passed on it twice when it was $1400. Then gave in recently cost me more but 900 people in front of me I grabbed a mint used one. Reasonably priced. Feels like an amp and sounds great too. Imo the best modeler I’ve tried. FYI the Friedman takes any pedal I throw at it.

Hahaha! Imagine a non-musical person asking you to describe a tone! "Well, it's gainy with a little hair on it, a bark in the mids and a bite in the highs with a lot of fat all around, which is a little too thick, so I would tighten it up with some brightness to give it some pizzazz." Lol it's funny because I totally get what you're saying, as a guitarist! I'm sure anyone who values sound, whether it's because they play, or whether they are just appreciators, will understand. But I always wonder how people, without that inclination, interpret or feel about descriptions like that. Like "Your sound has hair? Bark? Bite? Fat? Tail? Why does your guitar sound like a dog that needs some exercise? It sounds like a guitar to me." Lmao! This was a great video sir! Thank you

Bea.... It's the same thing with my Les Paul and my Dirty Shirley, when you really spank the strings and Dig In on chords or single note stuff, it gives you that bark and bite and sting of a marshall Plexi, I think it's because it's tube rectified...... if you play normal it sounds good but doesn't have very much attack because of the SAG, people say there easier to play on but I feel like you got to really stay on it to make it bark and sing...... I also think that's why it sounds so dynamic, because it's a bit spongy when you play soft, so it doesn't drive the amp as hard...... so I'm pretty sure I know exactly what you're talking about LOL
