Beautiful tones man! Your tone at the beginning reminded me of the low gain tones used in math rock by bands such as Polyphia and Chon. That’s some of the most melodic and tasty playing I’ve ever heard. I could tell you were really inspired by the amp.

I'd gotten the combo version and I have been playing twice as much as usual! Put a reverb/delay pedal in the front side and it's sweet as could be. Great for my Strat's and every guitar I own. and as always great playing RM.

We all have (at least) one that got away. For me it was a Fender Super Sonic 60 Head that I owned in 2006. I ended up having to sell it to pay bills. Now I wonder if it is still as good as I thought or if 15 years later it is still a killer amp. I still want to find another, but the JJ Jr is another I think I gotta' get while they are sorta easy to find. Friedman amps are just SO DYNAMIC and feel like nothing else to play on for me. Congrats on the fantastic sounding amp.

I'm torn between the BE100 Deluxe and Twin Sister. Absolutely dying to try them both out, but nowhere stocks them in Ireland. Pity I couldn't rent the pair of them for a month or something!

@@BionicSammich I feel you dude! It really depends on what you're looking to get out of the amp, the way I look at it is: BE -> modded plexi tones/ twin sister -> Jtm 45-based tones. The TS is more vintage in character, feels a little bit spongier due to the tube rectifier, imo excels at clean to classic rock tones, but can get great saturated sounds, especially if you tighten it up with a clean boost. The BE DLX is a swiss army knife, it can get close to the TS but still sounds more refined/tighter to my ears, less fat overall and more "modern" if that makes sense. Some of the tones overlap so I'm sure you'll be happy with either of them!

@@RoccoPezzin It's a common misconception that a rectifier tube is what makes this amp feel spongy. The rectifier tube is a GZ34/5AR4 which has the lowest voltage drop of any rectifier tube. Around 10 volts DC drop when compared to a 5Y3 at around 60 volts DC. What actually makes the most difference is the capacitance of the high voltage filter caps. Filter caps in a modern high gain amp like a Wizard MTL are around 150uF. BE100 DLX caps are 100uF. Compared that to the filter caps in a dirty Shirley or twin sister at only around 33uF. Lower value filter caps are looser on the high voltage supply and result in a spongier, saggier feel. Higher value caps maintain the high voltage suppy more consistenly and result in a punchier feel. I recently tested this when I built a Dirty Shirley clone. I tried a tube rectifier and a solid state rectifier using diodes. No change in feel. Swapped out the stock value caps for higher values... Immediately less sag! Not saying this to start a fight or anything, just wanted to share my experience having built a few amps ;)

Just with this amp in particular is not as much of a player as the filter caps. If you don’t believe me then solder in 4x diodes on a switch to flick between tube and solid state rectification in your dirty Shirley or twin sister and feel it for yourself.

Another great amp you can’t mod with an axe fx, I don’t know why the modders argue with me regarding the authentic tube warmth that they claim to get, drives me crazy but anyway I own an Axe Fx3 mkii and it sits idle most nights while I’m using my Friedman ds 40, Marshall 410 or JCM 800 & 900, Mesas and Fenders to many to list Sounds great bro!

I just got one on the back of your and other reviews. First off it had a bad preamp tube, making lots of noise on channel 2, sorted that out and then noticed a kind of distorted hiss shortly after clean chords, and listening closely to this I can hear it here too. Maybe it’s the Bloom everyone talks about, but once heard it’s hard to unhear.

I've got a dirty shirley mini, sadly no longer produced. I love it to death. Wish I could justify the twin sister - it looks like my perfect amp. I kind of prefer lower gain amps pushed into heavy distortion over high gain amps.

I'm stuck in my pentatonic positions and the blues scales, sometimes adding some dorian or aeolian in there but i'm stuck on licks, especially fast ones. I have the DS mini and PT20. They’re both spectacular. My main gigging amp is the Dirty Shirley and it totally changed the game for my live sound. I can’t recommend either enough if you can manage to snatch one!

Hey Rabea (long time no see - at NAMM, maybe again someday.) Have you tried a Friedman Buxom Boost into the Twin Sister? THe Dirty Shirley really takes a boost neat, pushes it in a special way into high gain. Dave turned me onto that himself and I tried it on my Synergy DS modules and yeah, it's killer.

Now that you've had some time with it, what do you find is the best speaker/cab pairing for the Twin Sister? I've been pretty happy with a 2x12 v30 (120w) cab but wonder if a lower power greenback loaded cab would better suit it.

I can’t imagine this amp not sounding good with any speaker cabinet combo, but I’m using a Marshall HW 4x12 w/EVH’s. As good as it sounds through the 4x12, it stomps through a lonestar 4x10 (Jensen Alnico) on top of a compact recto. It just stomps. I put an EVO hot mod V2, so one channel is stock, and one is hairier, but thinner. The low end coming from 40 watts rumbles way beyond my JVM410H and TC-100, but all three have some kind of lifetime tone in them. Cheers!!
