Great video as usual..... I will say while the ds and ts are capable of huge fat girthy tones, you can also cut bass to about 2 and push mids and treble higher to tighten it right up to smallbox territory....... Though it took me a full year of owning it to pry myself away from the crazy bass it has..... Once I did I found a whole new world of tones it has.....

Sounds fantastic, but I think having a twin sister enables you to dial in a perfect rhythm and then a perfect solo tone out of the same Dirty Shirley and switch back and forth without having to "re-dial" in your tone. Maybe a 2nd demo showing the true strength of...The Twin Sister!
@shorerocks3 жыл бұрын
Great one, as ever, Michael. Question - could you share a pic / explain / make a tour on where exactly you place those SM57s? I am asking, because I love your tone. But myself, with V30s/Greenbacks and SM57, I do not get it to sound so smooth yet present. Cheers from Germany!

This amp doesn't have the loop switch. Does eliminating the loop have any effect on tone, though? Also, they nixed the hi and low option inputs. Is that a deal breaker?

And I own 2 Lesters that I love including an R8 but there’s no question that my Friedman is wayyy better in regards to build quality. If anything Gibsons are overpriced, especially historics.

Late commenting in on this one... but this is one of the best sounding amps I’ve heard so far. As said on other comments, only thing this can’t do is the modern tight metal gain type stuff, which I also love. Question if I may, would you say you can get high gain metal if you pushed the front with a tube screamer or a boost? Would it tighten it enough to get that desirable metal sound? If so, this really would be the PERFECT amp for me! Looking at the Soldano SLO-30 as well for this very reason but I’m so torn between the two.
@BigHairyGuitars3 жыл бұрын
Something like a Buxom Boost will push either amp into metal territory

OMG.... 3:50 Is the tone I have but 3:30 is the tone I want! Teach me your ways! Post EQ? Delay? Dual mics panned? .
@BigHairyGuitars Жыл бұрын
3:50 is a Bogner 1x12 v30 in the room, being captured by the camera mic. 3:30 is just 2 SM57's on the same 4x12 cab. I mic different speakers, and blend. I find that when you bend 2 mics, even if it's the same kind of mic and the same kind of speaker, it balances out the frequencies a little bit and give a nice full sound.

Hi Michael, which amp is more suitable for singing leads with a good sustain, this amp or the Small Box?
@BigHairyGuitarsАй бұрын
They both will do that. the Small box is a little more present, and bright and hard and cutting. The TS is a little more round and softer and fatter. With a tiny bit of pedal boost, either can totally get there.

GOOD LORD! What a sound! What’s the story with this amp? Is it a twin if some sort?
@SlimeyGuitarStrings3 жыл бұрын
The Friedman Dirty Shirley is the original amp. Essentially this one has 2 channels that are exactly the same so you can dial them in and then switch between them to get a couple different sounds. That's where the twins thing comes from.
