What surprises me the most about Revelation (so far) is that it portrays a vengeful Jesus, which is totally opposite of the loving compassionate turn-the-other-check Jesus that Christians talk about.

You have a very shallow idea of what the Bible is and leads me to believe all your knowledge of the Bible comes from videos such as these, though I could be wrong. @EidelmaniaWho do you think was speaking in this? I tell you, it was a song written by Moses. Going back and reading the chapter it is clear that Moses was quite confident in his faith of God. If you read the full chapter it is a song about the power of God and His Just vengeance for His people. God does not go out of His way to kill willy-nilly; as mentioned, God is just and very much as reasons to cast judgement on people. Your example is invalid based on the lack of context, perspective, and reasoning. As much as you may try to find a fault in God, you will surely fail.
@jonathanmarkoff446910 ай бұрын
@Eidelmania I imagine that in Samuel L. Jackson's voice.
@TheLookingGlass00110 ай бұрын
@Eidelmania Yes, we all fall short to the glory of God and our works alone can't be our way to heaven. The Bible is clear that we were given a set of laws to follow which is also the standard God gave us, we failed to meet that standard and because we broke the law, we are to be punished for it. God warns us that hell is not a place for us, however, it is the only place where God doesn't go; so if we choose to live apart from God then God will respectfully allow us to live eternity without Him. It says in the Bible that God delays our judgement in hopes that He may not have to cut us off from Him. God truly loves us and has proven this through the death of His Son. If He wanted to force us to worship Him, He wouldn't have given us free will to choose and He wouldn't have had His Son sent to die in the first place.

For full disclosure, I’m not Christian. I’m Baha’i. Revelations was revealed in a dream. A dream is generally fully symbolic. When they say alive and dead, they mean spiritually alive and dead. You can compare someone who is spiritually dead as a Christian who thinks they can justify hating lgbtq. There are layers to spiritual writings and sayings. One layer is the obvious literal meaning, but there is also spiritual layers. Those with ears to hear are listening to the deeper message of Jesus’ words, the underlying spiritual meaning. Revelations is about the return of Christ, which was Baha’u’llah. The new Jerusalem was Mount Carmel, which links back to the Book of Isaiah. Jesus’ new name is Baha’u’llah, which means The Glory of God, which also tracks back to the Old Testament. Those who are lukewarm are those who say they believe, but don’t follow his teachings of love for all people. The riches of Jesus are the spiritual qualities or human virtues. Religious or non-religious, we can all agree we should acquire good human qualities. The commentary in this video is humorous, but misguided. It doesn’t have to be so extreme an understanding. The basic message of all of this is telling them to be genuinely good, loving people and not hypocrites or just out for themselves. Twisting this message is just as bad for the religious and non-religious alike.

I know Rightist Christians hate disabled people, so there goes my ticket to Heaven, but I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints anyway. But not everyone shares my view, so devout Christians who are D/deaf, or blind, or whatever, any place in Heaven for them? AS THEY ARE? Don't give me that cure narrative bullsh*t: I had that thrown at me way too much as a child. 5. Casey Cole just did a video about the "neither hot nor cold" thing, and I WONDER why he doesn't like people like you or me, Hemant, even though we are FIRMLY in the hot zone. Or cold zone. Depending on how you read that. But the whole point of the video was that Jesus doesn't accept lukewarm faith. So would he accept firm Atheism? I'm not an Atheist, still: I don't know exactly WHAT I am, but to me, it's more like "goodness is God". NOT "God is good", eh, because we all know that's a lie. Other way around. What I call God is more like the social conscience. I'm also an Anarcho-Communist, which is, like, as far politically Left-bottom as you can get on that stupid political compass thing, so eh, would Jesus respect that? 6. My sister married a Polish dude, right, and the Polish Catholics have this tradition at Easter where, on the Saturday night, they'll set an extra place at their tables so that, by the next morning, it acts as an invitation to Jesus to come and join them once he's come back to life. Oddly enough, I'm getting the feeling that that MIGHT have come from this part of the Bible. I'd have to ask Chris, but he and my sister aren't really Catholic so much anymore. Last time we were all in a church together, actually, I think it was Chris's dad's funeral. He hadn't been well for a long time. That was...two years ago? I think? 7. There is always a problem with the Bible in that translators are not at all consistent on translating the Greek or Hebrew to English. I’m not sure there is actually anything to be seen here. The Greek word used in this case is “Theou”. In the Gospels, Jesus refers to “The Kingdom of Theou” and to himself as “The son of Theou”. And of course Jesus refers to “Theou” as his Father “Patros”. That whole “Shield of Trinity” thing where things are and are not the same at the same time is a concept that came after Revelation was written.

I remember a long time ago reading a short article in Reader’s Digest about the Bible finally being translated in some remotely spoken language. The problem is the language it was being translated into didn’t have a word for lamb, because the community it was spoken in didn’t have lambs. So they came up with this general description of an animal like a lamb that they used in place of anywhere lamb occurred. That doesn’t make Jesus erring to use lamb and sheep to explain concepts when he was teaching the people. They were very familiar with lambs and sheep and they were metaphors the people of Jesus’ time understood.

Oh, BTW, it says "to the Angel" of so and so, so Jesus did not address the "church" only the angel, and seemingly he had to get a human to talk to an Angel. And in 3.11 who is this "my God" Jesus is supposedly referring to, if he is God like so many believe. I will let people think about that for a moment....

Jesus, why wasn’t Noah and his family choosing you before global flood, Abraham showing his will to kill his son to you, and Job’s endurance, ALL these perfect FREEWILL they shown to you wasn’t enough for you to destroy Satan😅why wait for so long and start finding who will show good FREEWILL in 7 churches and start over punishing people for, to see DEATH!?😢

This video consisted of shallow comments without real meaning. Every comment made speaks of arrogance and lack of understanding. Don't get me wrong this Friendly Atheist guy seems chill and very knowledgeable, however, assuming his other videos are like this, it doesn't hold any value and know point is really made. An atheist studying the Book of Revelation is like a stubborn Creationist reading Charles Darwin's notes, both of them are already biased about the common truth is and both of them have already made a presumption of what is read. Revelation is a book about a prophecy of what is to come and biblical scholars still are perplexed about this book, so for someone such as yourself making a video pointing out every wrong is like flat earthers pointing out everything wrong with astronomy, it's quite nonsensical to say the least. The Book of Revelation is a type of book that is exclusive for those who already have salvation and have faith in what the Bible says, after all "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." - Proverbs 9:10

You are the one who has a lack of understanding. Shoring up your statements with a quote from the Book of Lies has no value to people who don't believe in it. I don't know which Biblical scholars you think are perplexed by Revelation, there are a number of prominent respected ones (Ehrman, Carrier, etc. ) who are not perplexed at all and see it for what it is. Bible thumpers always want to give people their stupid book, because if we just read it, we would be converted and know the truth, but what you are saying is that we should ignore Revelation, because it's not for us, just for believers. What other parts of the Bible does this philosophy apply to ? Is it just Revelation, or are there other books in the Bible that are only for believers ? As for flat-Earthers and astronomy : 1) What do you think is wrong with astronomy ? And 2) The whole reason that flat-Earthers exist is because of your dumb book. The cosmological view of reality that was common to peoples in the region that the Bible takes place in 2,000 years ago was that the Earth was flat, a dome called the Firmament was above it, there was a layer of water above that and above that were 7 levels of heaven, which was an actual physical place where God and his minions resided. There are a number of references to this in the Bible, it's obviously not true, like everything else in the bible, but as always happens, when it was proven that this was nonsense, the church just morphs their story to fit with the facts. I assume facts are a problem for you, and that you are the creationist that can't accept evolution because you are biased against it based upon your devotion the ridiculous Bronze-age mythology that you live your life by.

May I ask, so what are other wisdoms from? especially who brought beneficiary to humankind like medicals? Did these people all fear the Lord and got the wisdom? How can you tell they weren’t atheist? Some had wisdom as atheist and provided to medical care, isn’t it!

You do know that people who learn biology today to not get their knowledge from Darwin's writings and that Darwin got a lot of stuff wrong don't you? Can you give an example of how his reading is lacking understanding? I assure you, we all know that Revelation is a book of allegory and the words are not to be taken "literally", its just that, well, the way it is written is simply hilarious. Do you have any specific examples of where you feel he lacks "understanding" of what is written? Do you think he hasn't already read the apologetics commentaries about the passages contained in places such as BibleHub? Can you please explain your comment about how fear is related to wisdom? What does the word "holy" mean in this context and how does one gain knowledge of it? How is "faith" a path to knowledge? Is there any proposition that CAN'T be held on faith? If one person says they have faith in a proposition "X", and another person has faith in the proposition "not X", how do you determine which actually represents reality and can be called knowledge? Isn't faith just the excuse people use when they don't have a good reason?
