In my country, the media and politics try really hard to hide the connexion between immigration and the rise of violent crimes, yet most of us want our current immigration laws to be hardened, and for the criminal migrants to be expulsed from our country. So there is a public opinion that's different from the published opinion, which means that what Churchill said in his time is irrelevant as of today, and was probably wrong back then. I'm proud that my grandmother and grandfather started and ran an independent newspaper in the 50's called "The Canterbury Flash." They paid for it themselves without any corporate backing. They published articles about what they were doing to resist industry destroying the Cooks Rive alongside poetry and local news. They published how they campaigning with the Cooks River Association to reclaim and clean up the Cooks River for the community to enjoy. They were working class people with no connections or money who stood up against big business and government polluting the river to the point oil slicks were visible everyday and dead livestock floated downstream knocking into mattresses and sewerage. Their legacy can be seen today in Sydney's inner west in the vast green recreation spaces and parks and bike tracks around the River. There's no statues for them but they are my heroes.
