Territories get less rights and power. Stupid that NT has 230k pop, ACT has 450k pop and Tasmania has 560k pop - and federally NT and ACT each get 2 seats each while Tasmania get 12. Bump ACT up to 12 and NT up to 8 and we can compensate for the terrible voting choices of Tasmania.

Think of the Australian Constitution as a contract between the 6 colonies, which without those stipulations, there would be no Commonwealth of Australia. And if you want to make an argument about proportionality, it is the citizens of NSW who are the most unrepresented per person in the Australian Senate. And even then, that's followed by Victoria and possibly Queensland before you get to the ACT, let alone the NT. Also, Tasmania is an island that requires a fair bit of effort to maintain. The tyranny of distance effects them doubly so, but unlike WA they don't have iron ore or gold to mine. A good idea would be to create a North Queensland Territory with the border with (South) Queensland being just south of Mackay. That might provide incentive to move the NSW-QLD border south of Coffs and maybe you could move the VIC-NSW border a little north so VIC includes the entire Upper Murray catchment including Albury and Deniliquin, which are much more part of the Victorian economy than they are part of the NSW economy.

@Banana_Split_Cream_Buns The reason I didn't mention proportionality between states for Senate representation is because the constitution states that all 6 original states must get equal representation. However increasing the Senate seats per territory only requires passing a new bill - not a referendum. Recently plans to double them were scrapped due to LNP refusing to agree to it. No point passing a law that will just be reversed and politicising Senate seats per territory would be my guess.

NT has an interesting political history. In 2005 NT Labor crushed the CLP's 26 year domination. Clare Martin, a well known ,popular ABC Morning Show host became Labor Leader to defeat Denis Burke, former Army officer. In 26yrs, all the way up in Darwin, where nobody thinks about, with all that federal money, large public servant population, it had become jobs for the boys and a tough on crime stance was used at election times. Labour remained in power till now. So, that term was almost 20 yrs

Politics in QLD = 50c bus fares paid for by mining tax. Media blackout on how the tax is funding the cheap fares with the exception of mining lobby ads pointing to the extra money the government is taking from them. Soundbytes on the news show Liberal candidate saying "I will keep the 50c bus fares." while excluding any discussion of repealing the mining tax or what current Labor government is doing with the money...🙃

Speaking of states/territories, most people don't know Jervis* Bay isn't in New South Wales. It's technically its own small territory but under the jurisdiction of the ACT, so the local cops there are ACT cops not NSW. This was done to give ACT access to a water port.

39:00 one thing on the NT not being a state is that they had a referendum in 1998 to become a state and it barely failed at 51% no votes the libs at both territory and federal level were on the yes side, whereas labor was actually on the no side

So.... in Townsville... at James Cook University... the Chancellor only ever rocks up to shake the hands of people finishing their degree.... The Vice Chancellor (VC) does the same speech every year for all the first years.... And that is their job.... Also the VC legit sent an email to the entire university twice by accident... then called the IT department to delete every single duplicate email in every recipients inbox... The bloke who took that call told her to go fuck herself and that is was illegal.... GO JCU!

The internet has been ruined for at least half a decade at this point. Those days are well and truly over. And it was the fault of corporate social negligence. Not government. The problems stemming from the modern condition need to be addressed.

@@OnlyAchievingHere Nahh. It's already ruined so it doesn't matter, is a weak point. Then to claim government hasn't had negative effects as well also is ludicrous (paraphrasing). Anonymity and privacy is important on the internet but inconvenient. Overreach is a bad thing and short sighted
@OnlyAchievingHere
@OnlyAchievingHere 2 ай бұрын
@@y0bo3000 That wasn’t my point at all. My point was that it has gone unaddressed for too long and major societal issues have come as a result, which cannot be left to fester any further. Kids shouldn’t be on the social media internet anyway imo (incl 95% of KZbin). It causes a whole host of issues and alienates young people from reality and steals time crucial time in their development years.

Skip that book, some 40k books are truly crap. Try starting with Dan Abnett or Aaron Demski Bowden. Talon of hours by Aaron is great. Or start the Eisenhorne series by Dan, Horus Rising from Dan is also good but that's the start of a 60-70 book series from multiple authors. Infinite and Devine is actually also pretty good, surprisingly funny.
